Daily Report

Loss on Month £21.19

Outstanding Bets £3035.66

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc&usp=drive_web#gid=33

One of the worst days for a while with a loss of £177 wiping out an embryonic profit for December

The roll of shame as follows

- Ashley Taylor Boring was eliminated from SCD for a loss of £68 by not being top man. This felt a bit inevitable whilst watching Saturday's show given the judges had taken a shine to the other male contestant

- McDowell did not win the Nortwestern Mutual -£10

- The less said about the Redskins at home to Kansas City the better. -£25

- Quite how the Eagles and Detroit turned 8-0 at half time into 54 points total, matching the original pre-weather spread we'll never know. Furthermore, it was the first NFL game for 56 years with no points scored by Field Goal or Extra Point - £30

- The Titans led the Broncos 21-10. With a 14 point spread in our favour we had a 25 point buffer. The Broncos proceeded to score 51 points, including an NFL record 64 yard field goal, and blast us out of the water - £30

- Marcel Reece scored a 65 yard touchdown for the Raiders. Unfortunately, not the first one of the match - £14

So, drawing a line under all that nonsense, a look at progress in longer term positions yesterday

Arsenal got a good point at home to Everton. A good point because once again Everton were seriously impressive. Arteta: "Everton are the best side we have faced this season in the Premier League." Arsenal now 5 points clear at the top

In the RLWC one of he great shocks as the weakest Irish Province Connacht went to Toulouse and won. For us, no tries for Gear and Medard did not play

In the NFL

- The Bengals are now 9-4 and two games ahead of the Ravens with three regular season games to play. Last game of the season? Ravens at Bengals

- The Eagles as we saw beat Detroit, to win their sixth in a row and lead the NFC East ahead of the Dallas game tonight. Only one team likely to make the play offs from this division. If the Eagles get there, they are a team that could cause Seattle problems

- The Titans scored 28 points last night. For the season we need over 354 points. After 13 games they have 292, so three games to get 63 points or 21 points a game. Do-able.

- Miami won in Pittsburgh to go 7-6 but the Patriots once again pulled off an improbable victory to go 10-3. Next week, Patriots at Dolphins. Lose that, and the bet is done

- Quarterbacks. Brees turned it on for the Saints last night. He won't catch Manning, but should give us a modest each way return. Stafford playing in a snowstorm was unhelpful and we have a battle there to secure an each way return. Back to the dome next week should help. Ryan contiues to put up respectable numbers but the absence of his star receiving weapons will cost us in that bet.

The current QB passing yard standings are

1   Peyton Manning, QB   DEN 4,522
2   Drew Brees, QB    NO   4,107
3   Matthew Stafford, QB DET 3,973

4    Philip Rivers, QB SD   3,882
5   Ben Roethlisberger, QB PIT 3,724
6   Tom Brady, QB   NE   3,685
7   Matt Ryan, QB   ATL   3,677

by the way there was an NFL record for a single day yesterday. 87 touchdowns. With five games in bad weather too.

In the cricket, there was no option but to turn off once Stuart Broad got out hooking in the first over. To quote Sir Geoffrey, whose magnificent ire is lighting up many a winter night currently, on Broad's dismissal

"Stupid. He's obviously shot. Mentally gone. He doesn't fancy it."

England being 2-0 down due to being outdone by pace and bounce before they even get to Perth (the fastest track in the world, where England have only won once against a Packer weakened side in 1978-79) is like losing to Magnus Carlsen at tiddlywinks before meeting him in a Chess Championship. Shame no one will read this far to appreciate such a nice metaphor

Anyway, of England's 40 wickets to fall in two games 21 have been caught on the leg side. 4 in the last innings alone to hooking. Quite utterly pathetic lack of gumption and common sense being shown

Why is the stadium nearly empty, the weather doesn't look that bad?

Because the Patrons are so disgusted with their team. Striking image, when virtually every NFL game is a sell-out

Empty stadium? The Aussies don't much rate England, I guess.

Very striking image, I take it they are losing out a shed load financially, maybe football supporters could learn something from that, when they have a gripe it's all moaning and no action ie price of season tickets, wanting owners out (Glazers), team not performing to expectation.

(Tikay I meant the NFL not the cricket, sometimes it's the norm in the cricket I suppose )

Morning Mr Tightend.

Just to show that lots of people devour every word and picture of the daily report, and have them as one of their daily highlights. I shall point out that it was the Heineken cup rugby and not the RLWC.

Do you have a particular site that you use for the pictures as they are always excellent? Almost as good as today's metaphor.

Pics

I was remiss for a while, became an easy thing to drop in a busy day

However I follow a lot of sports photographers on twitter, and when I see a good photo come up favourite it and note in my little book, alongside the aide memoires that we all do when things crop into our head for later research,  to include it in the next morning's report

Big fan of sports photgraphy. Cricket has some good ones. American sports notably NFL have good ones.

Did you see this one yesterday from Welford Road?
