Just a bit. No Tighty, no Fred, it's that simple.

Add to that, Rich has pretty much taken over the bet placement, as I'm really under the cosh with workload & senility right now.

I think, as with the Daily Reports, he's doing a far better job than I ever did. I cost Fred over £700 last month alone, failing to confirm bets.

Well done Rich, & thank you.

Looks dreadful, but google tells me it is not as bad as it looks.

Just to wrap up the Masters, we made a bit of money & had a lot of fun. Ticks my boxes.

Thanks for all the Recommends & debates, it made for a cracking sweat, & we were well in contention for the banzai win on the front 9, but Bubba was just too good, he was relentless & fearless, & we can have no complaints. 66/1 shots don't win so often, but the place money was tidy.

Great spot by doobs so long ago on Jordan. Fred has him for The Open @100/1 (now 40/1), & I've dabbled at 66/1 for the US Open, too, @ 66/1 (now 40/1).

Some commented on Jordan's demeanour & behaviour. None of us like to see that sort of stuff, most especially on a Golf Course, but he's just a boy, barely started shaving yet, & it was the biggest deal in his life so far. Many of us might get a bit out of line in those circumstances. He has time to learn. Pressure does funny things, especially to young men.

Bubba? Extraordinary. Heads Up with Tiger, Bubba would be odds on, I fancy.

The TV coverage was pretty good, too. Much as I admire his playing record, I struggle to watch Monty pontifricating, he seems quite a nasty, bitter, sort. I switched over, where Ken Brown was his usual quirky, funny, enthusiastic & insightful self, & of course, Sir Peter, like or dislike, is different gravy.

All very enjoyable.

I don't like Jordan Speith much, not backing him again, hard to funk for someone so stroppy and angry. Woulda won me a few grand but Bubba's been all class and Speith like a spoilt little boy

Much as I love me old mucker Jaffa, I did have a laugh at this.

Has Jaffa become the new Gentleman Ben at the poker tables in the last five years?

A bit of Masters post mortem on our ante-post bets. I watched the odds quite closely from about 3 weeks out. Basically nothing lengthened in price at all.

The guys that played well leading up to the event shortened, in some cases quite dramatically. E.g.

Kuchar – 40/1 into 20/1
Garcia – 40/1 into 20/1
Scott – 20/1 into 10/1

Then you had the guys that were tipped up or well suited to the course that also shortened. E.g.

Woodland – 100/1 into 66/1
Snedeker – 50/1 into 33/1
Cabrera – 100/1 into 70/1

Then you had the guys who were either suspected of carrying an injury or were just unfancied whose prices didn’t move. E.g.

Bubba Watson – 28/1
Mickelson – 16/1
Jason Day – 20/1 (he did come in a little)

The offers this year also just seemed quite uninteresting. A few firms went 6 places but most of the rest didn’t do anything that made anything a must bet.

All of the above just makes me think that we need to be looking at these big events a couple of weeks before and getting bets on early. We can always re-evaluate offers in the week of the event but I think you gain more than you lose getting on earlier.

A brilliant sweat, need to bet more golf.

Have you factored Tiger's withdrawal into those prices?

True, my originals were pre Tiger pulling out, I expect he was a catalyst for a lot of prices shortening.

It still surprised me that nothing really got any bigger  - the unfancied guys just stayed where they were.

One or two firms paid 8 places at last year's Open.  I'd be surprised if the overround really changed that much to mean you shouldn't wait for 7 or 8 places.  Sure you could have got Woodland at 100/1 fairly late on, so it isn't like you would have missed that either.  I think waiting is definitely better than not waiting for The Open for most bets.

There are always going to be exceptions like Jordy and the maiden winner bet (which looked very good despite becoming a loser).
