What a mess of a race that was, with the field splitting as they did.

Must be a nightmare to ride in a race like that.

Extraordinary how he came right across the track in the last 100 yards.

Australia around 6/4 for the Derby. Can't argue with that given the way he finished to beat his group. Listen, he's a machine.

There was some discussion about the atmosphere at SJP today and how that should affect Newcastle price.

It is poisonous and in a game where we have dominated (albeit a poor game) and are winning the crowd are alternating between 'stand up if you love the toon' and 'you fat cockney bastard, get out of our club'.

Poisonous atmosphere and it is affecting the players. At home to the worst club in the league and we are going to pieces because the fans are giving out about the manager/owner.

Ante-post time.

Aljamaaheer is 8/1 for the Duke Of York Stakes in a couple of weeks.

We were lucky to beat him when Hanagan gave him a shocker at Newmarket and there's no reason why York won't be the next target. He's unexposed as a sprinter and has got the potential to start very short.

Recommend £30 win @ 8/1, various spots.

Mark Langdon wrote a good piece about Newcastle in his RPost column today about how they haven't under achieved at all this season but actually over performed.  Same old questions what do Newcastle fans expect?

- Not to completely fail to turn up for every derby game.
- Not to lose against weaker teams in 1st rounds of the cup every time without even attempting to have a run at them.
- Not to continuously sell our best players without actually bothering to buy any replacements.
- Not to make zero permanent signings in multiple windows.
- Not to have a Manager who makes ludicrous tactical decisions that are senseless.
- Not to show zero ambition
- Not to have the club asset stripped.
- Not to have a Manager that makes pathetic excuses for his and his teams failings.
- Not to be in a position were being 9th in the League is over performing.
- Not to be going into the Summer with zero Strikers.
- Not to be unable to compete with teams smaller than us when trying to buy new players.

I mean I could go on and on and probably missed a few very important issues.

If this is over performing I'd hate to be running average.

Anyone who thinks Newcastle have overperformed or that the fans should be 'happy' with the club is a moron.

For balance: someone who has actually met a Newcastle fan:

Yes, you're right, performance is measured solely by league position. Sorry, my mistake.

In all seriousness in football performance usually is measured by league position in the vast majority of cases.  Players get pay rises after promotion.  Managers tend to get sacked after relegation.

Why would we expect to finish in those positions with a poor team ?

If your club shows zero ambitions and you expect to come 14th but instead finish 10th should that make a fan pleased ?
