http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/sunderland-v-west-brom/first-goalscorer
we were discussing the game at the weekend
the draw is into 11/5. both teams need a point etc etc
Coral go 14-1 no goal-scorer, three points above the next best available
I suggest this is a bonkers price for a small interest
would anyone be surprised to see 0-0 here?

Have we still got the £10 free bet with Hills? Read the report this morning and thought better use that soon. Just looked at my account and it is gone.
It is possible I could have used it, and forgotten, but think it is more likely to have expired.
No free bet there now

Before we leave the World Snooker, though, I must say all that "Jester from Leicester" nonsense was rather grating, I thought. Do fans really call him that?
The visual coverage of the Snooker was wonderful, as always, but I think the Presenters & Commentators could use a bit of a freshen-up. Bring back Clive Everton, I say.
Which of the presenters and commentators did you like? And not like?
Ticking time-bomb, that question!
We must differentiate between "like/dislike", which is purely subjective, & how GOOD they are, which is a different thing.
I can't find much enthusiasm for the angry looking shouty man, Rob Walker. His claim to fame, according to Wiki, is inventing nicknames for snooker players.
"The Thunder from Down Under"
et al
. Very good, if you like that sort of thing. TV Producers, a strange & detached breed at the best of times, evidently do.
Hazel Irvine seems like a perfectly lovely person, & she does have a golf pedigree from her Uni days, but she cuts no ice with me on Snooker programming. Very good on Grandstand, back in the day, though, but just not a snooker type, imo. I don't enjoy her Golf Presenting either, but I'm sure thats just me. She supports Dumbarton for her sins, incidentally, & is President of their Supporters Club, which, one assumes, is an onerous resposibnility with so many Members.
apropos
nothing really, but did you know Hazel is just shy of 50 years of age, & became a Mum for the first time just 4 years back? She certainly looks wonderful for 50.
Dennis Taylor, another really lovely chap, but all a bit cliche, & no cutting edge to his stuff.
I suppose my biggest reservation, as I think he is just not up to the task any more, is John Virgo, ditto Willie Thorne.
I do think that John Parrott & Terry Griffiths are both excellent, can't fault either.
I just think it's all a bit samey, & could use a bit of freshening up.
Just personal opinions really, but I can't say I "dislike" any of them as people, not at all.

I can see all the arguments, for & against, but 14/1 looks too big.

spot the tighty
I run a kids football team in Leicestershire and emailed City at the start of the season asking if the kids could be match day flag bearers. We lucked out and were given the Doncaster game. The sound of 32,000 at full volume as we stood in the centre circle as the teams came out will stay with those lads for a very long time.

I must admit I didn't watch a lot of the snooker but thought Stephen Hendry came across well.

My ire is reserved for this man
"where's the cue ball going?"
Its going to towards the pocket John
shouldn't be on the coverage
the rest i like. Hendry, Parrott and Davis the best insights and dry humour
Feel the commentators box could sometimes do with a non snooker pro, a broadcasting man for the lightness or phrase and touch that they can have

What a lovely thing that must have been for those kids, a day they will never forget.
One of the things that the Premier League do well is always having these "Mascots" come on the pitch with the Teams, that's good in every way shape & form. I always love to see the kids faces, & which of the footballers really "look after" the kids.
In last night's Palace - Liverpool affair, Luis Suarez was "paired" with a kid who looked of adolescent age to me, maybe 14, 15, something like that, & Suarez was holding his hand as they walked onto the pitch. It struck me that maybe the kid was non-sighted (can we say "blind" these days?) & for some reason, I found it all rather pleasing to see. And God knows, football NEEDS to work on its image.
I went to see a Baseball game in Vegas last year - I forced Camel to come along, too - & the "Community" stuff they did there was astonishing, & shows why Baseball is so successful.

I like commentators who tell you what is going to happen, rather than what just happened. Compare it to golf:
"Tiger's in a difficult spot, here. Although it looks straightforward, there's a sharp break about ten feet in from left to right and it will head downhill after that, so pace is crucial. If he hits it too hard, it could go ten feet past and he's left a tough putt to save par"
You, as the amateur, then get to sweat it with the player. We can all tell the ball going in is good and the ball staying out is bad. It's like gymnastics: two feet together good; stumbling backwards for one step is ok but not great; two steps or more backwards or falling on your face bad.
I like that about Willie Thorne. Hendry definitely seems to have picked up that mantle. I will add another one to that: Alan McManus. For those who saw the PTC event on ITV4 a few months ago, he was brilliant in the commentary box. When he boxes up his chalk, I'd love him to do more on mainstream coverage.
