Sharapova was backed at 7/1 and can now be laid at 5/1 on Betfair so I'd just like to play the "value card" before she loses in the first round.
Simona Halep withdrew from Sydney this week with gastroenteritis.
Wozniacki has a strained left wrist and withdrew during her match with Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
Radwanska lost to Muguruza and didn't look fully concentrated which was odd.
Neither Sharapova or Williams are playing this week.

the new Golf season is on us.
Rory McIlroy's record at the Abu Dhabi Champs: 11th, 5th, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, Missed Cut, 2nd.
Should we be on him for this weekend?
On the face of it, that looks imprressive, though it depends on the price I suppose.
What do our golfists think?

Not a golfist but will use an analogy tighty uses a lot and i have in the past when someone fancies Team A versus Team B because they are playing well and the other team are not.
What do we know about Rory and his course form the market does not?

Well we have to start somewhere, & for that, the prices are handy......
So, here they are.
http://www.oddschecker.com/golf/abu-dhabi-hsbc-golf-championship/winner
For me, 4/1 is way too short. Very few golfers can be value at that, can they? At 10/1 bar, there must be some better value I'd have thought.
By the way, I think we are obliged to all this event part of
The Desert Swing
. Miss Stirk emphasised that over the weekend. 300 times.
Should suit Sandy Lyle then.

Agree Tikay, even more so, so early in the season.
Stenson surely better value at 10s.
Need someone like Ralf or Phil to pick us a couple of big price e/w options

Just seen Kaymer interview.
Seems very focused and moved his schedule round to allow him more time to focus on the events he does play.
He has won here 3 times already.
Should get a good run for your money ew at 14-1.
In Sony Open, the world and his wife fancy Luke Donald(an Elder mentioned it to me first fwiw). The fancy prices have gone, but 35-1 is still decent if he scoops.

I was looking at three guys in this week's edition of the desert swing.
Willett, Oleson, and Levy.
However they all appear to have shortened considerably so I'm assuming that either Palmer, Chapman or both have put them up already so I'm holding fire until something appeals IR.

sporting life
"Dodging Bullets has taken over from Sprinter Sacre at the head of the betting for the Clarence House Chase.
The Tingle Creek winner is now a best of 7/4 with Paddy Power whereas Sky Bet, 888sport and Betway make Sprinter Sacre a 15/8 chance as doubts continue to surround his participation.
Twinlight is into 5/1 and now sits alongside Somersby at that price while French Opera and Grey Gold are 25/1 and 33s respectively.
“Sprinter Sacre was odds-on in our initial market created a fortnight ago, but rain softening the ground casts doubt over his participation and punters have backed Dodging Bullets with the opinion that Nicky Henderson’s superstar might not run,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
“As a result, Sprinter Sacre has been on the drift and Dodging Bullets has significantly shortened. However, if Sprinter Sacre was declared for the race, he would be odds-on and if he hadn’t been through his medical issues, then he would be around 1/5.”
The word 'if' features twice in that closing sentence and it's a very big one at this stage. Punters backing the former Champion Chase winner are first taking a big risk with the weather, then that his ability remains. "

John Higgins is playing some good stuff today.
I wonder if he's still got that place in Spain..

See that he won't even go to Cheltenham, unless he runs beforehand.

Going to be an interesting week in the golf, deffo looks like small stakes stuff on the Euro tour given the top end is priced up as though they are all in form and on their games which will probably not be the case for many in the field this early in the year. Rory is going to interesting, his court case is taking place in a few weeks and looks like it might be nasty. I've read a few things suggesting they will try to discredit Rory to justify the risk attached to the fee's they were charging him and he's been working on the case since he last played.
http://www.golfdigest.com/blogs/the-loop/2014/12/explainer-rory-mcilroy-suing-former-agents-court-case-trial-horizon.html
Could easily be playing on his mind or he might find playing again a release from dealing with it but enough questions to swerve at 4/1 for me. Last three winners were 125/1 66/1 and 150/1 and all held off big names down the stretch (Robert Rock beat Rory, GMac and Tiger Woods!) Might indicate post break rust and a lack of sharpness levels the field a little. So some Q's about the fav, a history of shock winners and possible reasons why it doesn't look like a bad event to throw a few ew darts at.
Only small bets coz it's far too early in the year to have any strong view but Tony loves a golf sweat, how about £5 win and place on BF Peter Uhlein and same bet Tommy Fleetwood, PP are six places but carved up the bigger prices and I'm not sure which firms you can bet ew with so will need to have a look around at the best firms we can bet with but BF looks the best option.
Seen a few fancies on the thread too, might be a good week for a few small stakes bets.
In the US it looks a course Luke Donald would love at his best, most of the tippers have spotted this combined with his new (old swing) kicking in again pre Christmas. Missed the 40/1 but 33/1 or a bit bigger is still ok now as it's close to the BF price.
Same on the US tour regarding some players shaking of rust and being in game shape mentally but Luke was doing a lot of work back end of last season, was odds on fav going into the last round in one event he didn't win and has some good form here in the past. Small downside if he does trade short is I'm not sure that swing held up in the last round of that event (it wasn't a Scwartzel type new swing collapse) but his game looked in good nick for the other 3 rounds, we can cross that bridge if he is in contention on Sunday.
