Can anyone explain why Rooney has been backed across for the board today for SPOTY?  What am i missing?

He has a great chance of becoming the record English International scorer. Could get the record in October or November just before the gig. With Murray falling out of favour and the rarity of B2B winners ruling out Hamilton, it seems quite a shrew move by the punters.

Plus he plays for 'nited and in lean years they get the award for nothing (e.g. Giggs)

Cheers. Kind of makes sense but it would have to be a desperate year for Roon to get it on that basis surely given he is nowhere near retirement, won feck all at manure last season, everyone knew for months he was odds on to break the record at some time this year and he has only won the record because there are so many incredibly soft games at international level now where England are 1/500 to win them and score 6 goals a game in the process?  His record of scoring in major competitions for England is woeful compared to Lineker for example.

just trying to give a reason why he is being backed. I won't be voting for him, even if he won the WC and rescued me and my family from a fire

I know i appreciate the reply.  I just thought he might have joined the ashes squad given the sea of blue on oddschecker or the fact his missus was expecting their 3rd kid!

This is bonkers!

Professional football has got much more competitive over the last thirty years. More countries have professional leagues, with professional players and players playing in other, competitive, decent standard professional leagues. Yes, Germany can stick eight up Azerbaijan, but England have scored five or more goals in an international just four times in the last fifteen years:

http://www.11v11.com/teams/england/tab/stats/option/scores

We play half a dozen games every other year against teams that would struggle to make the unibond dog and duck division six south, we are told. But we don't put ten up them, like the old days.

Oh and the greatest England goalscorer was unquestionably Jimmy Greaves.

no bets completed yesterday

1269 runs in the first Ashes test. A target for the others to beat

Rogers out for 10 second time round (so 105 in the first game) Smith 33

Middlesex were dismissed for 283 against Somerset at Merchant Taylors school

team time trial today in the TourDeF which should shake up the team standings.

Sagan went into the green jersey yesterday

Kwiatowski fell away again

A big day today for us. £100 on Djokovic at 2-1 and he is 10/11 for the final which might be a roof on affair (favouring Federer?)

I think if it's roof on it favours Djokovic as the court is slower.

It's just volume of games against weak opposition surely.  In older times you might get one whipping boy in your group - now you get 2 home fixtures where winning by 4+ is the expected result and a couple more where you can't expect anything else than a comfortable win.  In the 80s apart from a jaunt against Luxembourg playing Hungary at home was about as easy as it got.

Just letting arbboy know he can have 1/500 with me on the 'win and score 6 double' on any England game he likes now and in perpetuity.

Less trolling please.  I am the king of the trolls!

I would happily back England at 1/500 to beat Andorra or Gib at home if i had to but those lovely bookmakers always offer 1/50 or 1/100 because 'you never go skint laying a shortie'!

International football has never been less competitive top to bottom than it is today.  The amount of 1/100 total mis matches which occur in competitive qualifying matches has never been greater hence all the 'soft' goals for strikers.

I wonder how that bloke who bet on Spieth to win all four of this year's majors @1000/1 with 666 is feeling right now.

Still feeling like a mug I suppose - taking dreadful odds with a dodgy firm.

Djokovic beats Federer to win his third Wimbledon title. A £200 winner for Tft backed at 2/1 with our ex-friends at bwin before the French

He's best odds 13/10 to win the US Open

Good price?

Sagan for green jersey is going good, he's been his usual consistent self. could do with binking a win in, but no doubts he'll do enough with or without a stage win.

Team classification is still pretty murky, Sky have the best team of climbers and will be strong in the mountains. The domestiques might sit up once their job is done but you'd like to think they'd have Roche, Konig, Poels, Thomas and Porte in support of Froome till near the finish. Picture will be clearer when we finally hit the mountains.
