An early bird for next weekend.

Champagne West has been a bit of a disappointment for the Hobbs team, so far, this year. He ran a cracker, when second, in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup in December first time out and last time out was pulling his way into the lead in the Freebets Handicap when he made a bad error and Dickie sensibly pulled him up soon after.

Behind the scenes, Dickie took the mistake as his own error, and it has, probably cost him the ride, at the owners request(!). Tom O Brien schools him at home, and will probably be given the ride next week.

This horse is very well thought of at Hobbs's and even has a Gold Cup entry! Three miles looks like bringing about more improvement, and I am amazed he hasn't been put over further already. The slower pace should give him that extra bit of time at his fences, and I fancy this could be the key to him realising the potential.

There is a sort of inevitability he will get backed, and as long as he makes it safely during the week, I expect him to go off a lot shorter than the current 10-1. He was backed into 7/4 in a very strong handicap last time at Cheltenham.

Hobbs loves the race, having won it 4 times in the past, and would appear to have the front of the market dominated with Kruzhlinin(now out) and Sausalito Sunrise and Fingal Bay also near the head of the market. I cant see SS running again so soon, after winning yesterday, so it maybe just Fingal Bay going with him, but I felt he was being laid out of for a handicap at Cheltenham.

I would love to steam into this, but, as recent events have proven, a week in racing as you gear a horse towards a big race, can be a long time, but we may miss some significant juice if we leave it too late.

Recommend  £15 ew at 10-1 for the Betbright Chase at Kempton next week

Evening Tighty.

Looking at next weeks tennis tournaments there is a bet I like in the Brasil open. There are several potential winners here but a seed that I like who had an easy week this week is Thomas Bellucci. He has already made the final of one clay court tournament this season and I think he will go well this week, and he is in the easier half.

Suggest £10 e/w Bellucci @ 7-1 with betfred

Okay, F1 pre-season testing kicks off tomorrow. I've been scouring the markets and found the following bet suggestions.

Drivers Championship Winner - Nico Rosberg @ 9/2 with Betfayre. You guys know my thoughts about Nico Rosberg being the more complete driver already, despite Lewis taking the last two titles. From the USGP last year, and the collision between the two drivers on the opening lap, something changed in Nico. He saw the incident at turn one as Lewis overstepping the line of what is acceptable, and I think it made him realise that he needs to be that aggressive also - which he was - and he won the last three races of the season. Not to mention that he has taken the last six pole positions. I expect Nico to outpace and comprehensively beat Lewis this season. Suggest £50.

Total Drivers Championships (Lewis Hamilton) - 3 @ 10/1 with Choral. This is half linked to the bet above. With new regulations due in 2017, it's possible we will see Mercedes dominance end then. If Nico can take the title this season, it's more than likely that Lewis will not win another title in F1, 10/1 is utter madness. Suggest £50.

F1 Specials - McLaren not to get a podium finish in 2016 @ 2/1 with SkaiBet. I like this bet a lot! With McLaren openly coming out and stating that they are sticking to their "size zero" engine concept, I think they are doomed this season, unless we get an absolutely bonkers race .. I can't see a McLaren podium happening at all. Max bet (I was limited to £125).

F1 Specials - McLaren to finish last in the constructors championship @ 16/1 with SkaiBet. This was actually my request to the bookie. With Manor getting Mercedes engines, and technical assistance from Williams, as well as an increased budget, there is a scenario that McLaren will finish dead last this season. I think it's worth £20.

I will be thinking up more bets to suggest to SkaiBet as testing progresses, will keep you posted.

Peter, very interesting read.

Fred doesn't do Scuybet because of Tikay's occasional television poker expertery. Some of us mugs can still get on with them, though (thin), so don't let that stop you.

When would the Lewis Total World Titles bet be paid out? If he gets beaten by Nico this season, is he likely to retire? The year after? Strikes me as someone who enjoys all the things that F1 brings and he can pick his team if Toto chucks him out. My concern would be locking up the money for the next ten years. Thoughts?

That would be my worry, too, there's a possibility that the bookies would not settle for some years.

Utility of my £25 is probably better doing nothing in their account, than being in mine Cheesy

I guess the length of the bet is a fair counter-argument. Let's see, Lewis is 31 now. I would imagine he'd retire at 35/36 to go off and become a rapper, or open a dog grooming store, or something equally daft. So, I would say another five years perhaps. The way I see it, it's 10/1, the return would be £500, and I probably won't be doing anything better with the £50 stake, it will just be sat in my bank account with a circa 1% interest rate  Tongue
