Lingfield 16:40 tomorrow
Battalion
Finally Jamie Osborne has taken George Baker off this horse and given the ride to the very reliable Adam Kirby. I'm not usually of the mind that every race is a touch dodgy, but I was mortified to see Battalion go off at 7/4 in the Winter Derby, but then seemingly held, flat-footed in the starting gates. The race was lost from the off.
Against much the same opposition, from a draw that should give Kirby the option to keep just behind the pace, which is where it seems this horse needs to be, to deliver a final burst of speed that this one clearly possesses. Perhaps this was part of the plan - to get a better price on a horse in form? At 11/2 1/4 1-3 on Everyday, I think this is where we recover our losses from last time.
Recommend £20 e/w

I'm banned there unfortunately, but fixed link for anyone on PC
FWIW, I'd guess Baker is only off because he is still in hospital.
Oops, I didn't realise he was still hospitalised.... My bad, etc
Thanks for fixing the link.

The rain wasn't anywhere near as heavy as expected, but conditions were still tricky today.
A loss overall with all my tips I'm afraid
Thread should have made a profit without the spread bet though?
broke even
you misunderstood my point about staking. book size is crucial, your own personal circumstances are immaterial.
so even if we take this year's profit of £1500 as the "true" book and ignore initial starting bank and profits since, £5 bets at 0.3% of book are too low so if its ok with you i suggest i scale up (within tikay's tolerances) for bahrain onwards to get you in line with the £15-20+ that even the most conservative of others pops in
Okay, I'll be doubling any bet suggestions I put up this weekend then

Rightio, a few early bets to suggest ahead of the Bahrain GP:
Top Six Finish - Esteban Ocon
@ 16/1 with SkyBet and BetVictor. While Force India are struggling in qualifying at the moment, their race pace is actually pretty good. Admittedly this bet does require some luck to come off, but 16/1 is hugely overpriced given that his team mate is 4/1. Esteban is still learning at this level, and is slower at the moment, but it's still too high. Suggest £10.

Points Finish - Esteban Ocon
@ 11/4 with BetVictor (anything > 2/1 is fine). Same reasons as above, but this is considerably more likely to happen - obviously. Suggest £40.

Fastest In Practice One - Lewis Hamilton
@ 6/4 with BetStars. After the street circuit nature of Australia, and the unusual track layout of China, the Bahrain GP represents the first "traditional" racetrack of the season. How the cars react to high temperatures is a risk to this bet, but I feel anything over EVS is worth taking. Suggest £30.

Peter, are you concerned at all that you may have some bias towards Force India? You seem to tip them regularly each season and I think you mentioned before there was some sort of connection with the team either now or previously.
I'm confident you are very knowledgeable about the sport, but it's tough to be clinical with assessment when you're a fan. Just check out some of the football posts on here!
(will back your man to get a points finish regardless btw

Good question. That's something I'm
always
considering when making a suggestion. However my bets are purely data driven which makes bias rather impossible. A lot of the bets are Force India centric because that's where the value is - over the last few seasons they've been consistently out-performing the bookies expectations.
For the record, I am a Force India fan, and also the World's leading expert on Indian Motorsport. You could look at it a number of ways though because I also worked for Williams for a while, and have done contract work for Renault Sport F1 and Manor (now defunct) too.

I'm a realist, plus I'm quoting others
Hardly a boast though when the .. let's say "talent pool" .. is so narrow and limited.

its very early but the IPL table makes good reading after KKR's win yesterday
Lynn is now out of most of the tournament with a shoulder injury, very bad news given his form. Yesterday KKR promoted Narine to pinch hit, which came off but cannot be expected to do so that frequently
there is a big game tomorrow in Kolkota, KKR v Sunrisers
