My uncle's horse Panda Boy is 3rd favourite for the Grand National so I'm not saying anything hugely interesting but he says "he's as right as he could be", if anyone fancied a bet.
It's a dream for him. He had a horse Doubleuagain that won at Cheltenham about 40 years ago. That ran in the Grand National, finished but didn't place. Winning the Grand National has always been a life long dream and to be so close is amazing.

good luck. Sorry in advance, I backed him in my pinstickers before i saw this

That's gotta be well exciting.

VBOL, hope it runs well & gets home safely.

Ah well, Panda Boy didn't have the best of outings but he came home safe, he's young and he'll go again next year!

They’ve lost Thomas Frank and all the back room staff. Replaced him with a rookie.

They’ve lost nearly half their playing squad and now it looks like Wissa is off too.

I think Leeds and Sunderland are going to be much more competitive than several other recently relegated clubs

My fiist bet on this thread for many years

£50 Brentford to be relegated in 25/26 7/2 widely available

Good luck!

Exactly this.

Nothing is ever certain. But 7/2 is absolutely massive. Evens at best.

Lost an experienced Manager, and replaced him with someone with zero experience. They've sold their goalie, their midfield anchor, 1 of their 2 best forwards, and appear about to sell the other one.

Signed a Reserve GK, and Jordan Henderson.

Incredible. Fred is back. Thanks Keith.

Before I comment further, I have it in my mind that the nick for this thread was "Fred", but for the life of me, I can't remember why? Anyone care to jog my memory?

Proposed by Keith, endorsed by Phil, so under the "rules" of the thread, I guess I have to get on.

I must add the caveat that I'm at the age where I'm not madly enthusiastic about "long-term" bets, next May is a very long time away at my age, & the thought of passing away & leaving the winnings in a bookies account does not fill me with pleasure.

Anyway, we are on, & VBOL to all who follow us in.

Brentford

7/2
Relegation - English Premier League - Relegation 2025/26

Bet Reference O/0457483/0005367/F

Total Stake:
£50.00
Total Returns:
£225.00

We all made a small fortune thanks to this thread, & all those who gave us value bets, but my biggest memory of it was all the nasty arguments. I never understood the need for that. Debates are great, arguments & rudeness not so much.

Long-term bets & age got me thinking.

If you were making a Market, what price would you give for a, say, 77 year old Gentleman in average health for his age still being around in....

1 year

2 years

5 years

If only we had a resident actuary....

I'm not boring enough to be an actuary but ONS gives average life expectancy of a 77 year old male as another 11 years (to 88). If you want to play around with your chances or reaching certain ages have a look here

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/healthandlifeexpectancies/articles/lifeexpectancycalculator/2019-06-07

Obviously this doesn't give credit for being fit and active (i.e. golfing 4x a week), or penalise for a diet of Fray Bentos pies.

Wow, that's a pleasant surprise, though maybe I have to adjust my cash flow projections now and be a little more careful with my spending.

By way of an introduction, Enut, aka Paul, is a special friend from Next Door and by profession is an IFA so probably knows what he is talking about.

As to EssexPhil, another migrant from Next-Door and claims to know a great deal about football, but in the ultimate contradiction is a Spurs fan, lol.

Football is tribal. You pick your tribe. And stick with it.

Unless you're a Chelsea fan Smiley

Jordan Henderson has been under-rated for much of his career. He is/was a Nobby Stiles. One of those players who didn't catch the eye, but made his team-mates better. The water carrier, if you like. Every team needs them.

But he is now 35. Played over 600 Senior games over 17 years. The reason I say that is that some players come to the game late and can still play at 35-Ian Wright, Jamie Vardy etc.

Could he have done a job at, say, Sunderland (his first club), who need experience and nous? Probably. But Brentford in 2025 don't lack experience. They lack flair, and goals.
