What about someone with half a tank of petrol who is making a long journey in the morning?

Are they over 50?

Question for Tikay

Do trains get effected by the petrol crisis? I understand the modern ones use petrol, but do they have their own reserves of it?

Morning Barry.

I doubt  "trains" (or, "locomotives"), modern or otherwise, ever used petrol, it is not a suitable medium for railway propulsion.

Diesel was used for many decades, after steam & pre electrification. There are still plenty of diesel powered locomotives & trains in operation.

However, none of them will be affected by the potential strike by fuel tanker drivers. The TOC's have their own substantial fuel reserves, & these are usually fed by pipeline, direct from refineries, not road transport.

The electrified sevices will also be unaffected.

Here's a photo of a diesel powered & iconic Class 56.

Could not agree more, David, very little excites as much as a Deltic. If you ever get chance to use, or change at, Derby Station, there is always a Deltic parked at one end of the Station.

As a GWR man, I was always a little jealous of those wonderful Deltics, but the "Westerns" & "Warships" were pretty cool, Dad used to drive both when they were first introduced, & with H & S being less sensitive in those days, I spent many a journey from Paddington to Bristol in the cabs of these.

Anyway, enough of these wonderful pleasantries, we have hijacked the ANGRY THREAD, so we'd better move on.

Will have to stand shaking my head dispondantly while I fill up.

There are 4 petrols stations in area which I live. 1 of them is a BP independantly run which is always 2p per litre more expensive than the other 3.
The other 3 had queues many cars deep, the expensive 1 had no cars at all.
This made my day as I needed a fill up for work and paying a premium of a pound or so was well worth not queing.
