I thought this thread was supposed to be Legends of Music everyone is supposed to like not any random artist ?

you can join me in the not understanding what this thread is about corner

Just usual blonde poker thread - meandering off the path.

In response to the less legendary mentions - Coldplay sucked at the start, since & always will suck. Amy Winehouse had a lovely voice and a talented producer, but dying young isn't enough to achieve legend status.

Whoever mentioned Jimi Hendrix - GTFO - so ledge that Lennon & McCartney doing backing vocals on his Radio 1 sessions album almost got them off my meh list.

But it is too easy to dislike the rich/famous/legendary so I prefer to stick to the ones that were critically acclaimed/revolutionary.  On the subject of the rich.  Bono has a decent proportion of Elevation Partners.  They are owners of 2% of Facebook.  That is the same Facebook that listed for 100 bn dollars last week.  Bet you love him more now.  FWIW U2 were my favourite band for a long time when I was younger.  Though I always new that if you called yourself The Edge you were always a **** of the highest order

George Michael - I have tried (for the wife) but he is off key, can't hold a note and "sings" about death, loss and abuse, cheer up man.  Then about 2 Albums ago he found that bloody machine Cher sang through added a casio keyboard beat and got even worse.

U2 - since they were about 17 they just give the impression that they were more interested in image and revenue rather then music.  Such a shame as 2 of them are actually very talented and had something to say, sadly the other 2 have all the influence.

Florence - So disappointing, was expecting a new Kate Bush and got 2 albums of material that has rare listenable tracks.  She has also progressed little in 4 years, just does the same thing on bigger stages and looks more lost and alone then she ever did in the small venues.  One trick pony.

Motley Crue: - They are not heavy, they are not glam and yet they play big riffs and wear make up.  The singer can't sing.  1 saving grace is they have an amazing drummer who when coherent is usually worth a ticket price.

Steel Panther - First time it is all very funny, but each time they sing less songs and do more gags, and the gag's are poor, old, sexiest, homophobic and all a bit 1990's.

Hawkwind - WTF?  Even with Lemmy they were shit.

Genisis - WTF but longer and more drawn out and sadly never had Lemmy.

Calvin Harris - van Helden you ain't.  I just don't get it.

Aerosmith - Come on admit you stole that first album from someone else, as everything since has been awful.

Sure I could think of more

Hendrix is obv an abs boss, but like Dylan and The Beatles, he wasn't really a very good singer. For me though that's only a part of what makes a great Artist, and I'm a fan of all three.

Just usual blonde poker thread - meandering off the path.

but I normally have some idea what the path was before we leave it

so still no idea what's going on but here's my comments on the artists that have been mentioned that I've seen live

bowie- immense. bowie at glastonbury is the best gig I've ever seen
coldplay- biggest waste of talent ever. superb musicians playing the most boring songs they could think of
robbie- average singer, world class entertainer, well worth seeing
u2- exactly what bobby says though I'm not sure they've done as many as 5 songs. just rehash the same old crap repeatedly
primal scream- amazing, screamadelica is one of the greatest albums of all time
beyonce- meh but puts on one hell of a live show
keane- yawn, time for bed

Jimi was best when he just played....

Another one - The Smiths - mournful dirges from a whiney tool, if i want to be miserable through music  I'll turn on the charts I don't need some twat trying to force it on me. And the music wasn't even that good.

Agree with Bob Dylan. Queen and The Beatles are awesome though obv. Might be the first time I've heard any hate for Queen? Sheltered life I guess.

The Who probably the biggest band that I've never really taken any interest in could barely name two songs.

Supergrass. Never got it

Ocean Colour Scene. Never got it either.

Supergrass I can kinda see it because people only really know Alright (released in 1995, so sigh) and I'd agree that they have kept going for too long. Their most recent album in 2008 was the only one of six to not make the top 10 in the UK albums chart so they've still got something!

Ocean Colour Scene are just incred. Their two-disc Anthology is probably one of my favourite albums ever. So chill.

I'm with you on Winehouse though
