That wasn't all he tweeted though, there were loads of tweets threatening to kill Daley too, so I guess that's more what he's been arrested for.

yes, that is an offence. He wouldn't have been arrested for the Dad tweet, as horrible as it was

Twitter is an interesting one. They temporarily banned an account that criticised NBC's Olympics coverage yesterday

Furthermore the sort of trolling the likes of Adlington and Daley get is quite common on tweitter. Tricky to get an account shut down if someone does it to Joe Bloggs though

Just click "BLOCK" and offending tweets disappear.

Daley had thousands of positive, supportive tweets and chose to highlight one attention seeking idiot.

Over sensitive imo.

While I have every sympathy with Tom, and agree with the police action, I'm saddened by the double standards.

So much race hate is spouted online. Look at the reaction to the 'Big Fat Gypsy' programmes on TV chat forums. It's absolutely disgusting, but it's allowed to stand.

I reported a post that had a link to www.burnagypsy.com on facebook but nothing happened.

Getting sick of the biased coverage.

The Chinese divers who won gold were incred.

Headline? "Tom Daley comes 4th".

I want completely biased coverage

I want commentators who go nuts when our competitiors achieve medals

Its our home Olympics, a bit of jingoism is not only to be expected but encouraged

As long as its not negative xenophobia, and we celebrate amazing achievements from whichever nation too, fine

I don't get it.

Why should I cheer on someone purely because they happen to have been born in the same Godforsaken island I was?

They aren't representing me. They are representing themselves.

There are members of the British squad I badly want to win - Farah, Greene, Pendleton and Ennis. not because they are British but because they are incredible athletes and seem like really top people.

There are several members I really hope crash and burn: Cavendish has already been chinned, I'm hoping for the same for Idowu, Chambers and Murray.

Apologies for going back several pages but I wanted to comment on this.  I used to feel a bit like this but the more time I spend abroad the more I realise that patriotism and, in this case, rooting for Team GB isn't just about having been "born on the same godforsaken island" but it is about having a pride in a shared culture and everything that being British entails.  I was proud of Danny Boyles opening ceremony in a way that would never have been possible if it had been produced by Quentin Tarantino in Salt Lake City.  For sure there are some of our competitors I don't like as much but I can empathise much more with what they have had to sacrifice and go through to get to where they are and, therefore appreciate it more, than say Usain Bolt or Shiwen Ye.  Without being overly sentimental we have so much to be proud of in this country and the more time I spend away the more I appreciate it and I think the positive expression of that pride in something liek the Olympic games is both natural and positive.

Also they banned the person criticising NBC because that person tweeted an executives email address - I'm more inclined to think it was the email address that he was banned for rather than the criticism.

The BBC coverage is excellent.

But some of the commentators are dire.

Chris Boardman is more boring to listen to than Nigel Mansell.

Hugh Porter is completely clueless, even when all the information is displayed on the screen.

The rowing commentators get too excited too early and their voices get higher and higher pitched as they near the finish. Sounds like their balls are locked in vices.

And don't get me started on Legard.

Agree on Porter

Totally agree on Legard

The sheer enthusiasm of Gary Herbert on rowing is fantastic. A big fan here.

Wonderful to have Barry Davies on the hockey too. Much missed on football in a sea of Mowbray mediocrity and ITV shite all season

It's always a shame watching any cycling on the BBC knowing that Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen will be watching it on the telly at home.

Andy Jamieson and Adrian Moorhouse are very good on the swimming - they have the right mix of commentatiing and just chatting to each other.

If you want a hopeless commentator you should listen to Alan Green doing the rowing on the radio. Admittedly there's not much to describe in rowing but over 6 minutes of 'they need to push, they need to keep going here' becomes drone like.

Sherwen is immense. Definitely one of my favourites on any sport.

I like Jamieson, but Moorhouse is too results orientated. "She's not moving freely today" just because she's in 7th when she should be in third.

I think I'm the only sports fan in the UK who doesn't hate Green. Fergie detests him so he can't be all bad.

I think Mark Foster and James Corden are doing a good job hosting the swimming coverage

I think that Barry Davies may be past it a bit but he is golden compared to the Antipodean gentleman who has been commentating on some of the women's hockey. He is extremely patronising and shows a terrible bias towards the Australian team. They might as well have Phil Kearns commentating.

Barry also does the Heathrow Airport Olympic Report for T3, T4 & T5. Fascinating stuff.

Why on earth are there so many fencing events?

Surely a sword is a sword?

its slightly interesting that the other disciplines came about because they were training aids and they used them so often it morphed into its own discipline.

Three different swords: foil, épée and sabre. Chap I used to know at Uni was one of those there fencists (oddly not even marked on spell-check) and he showed me the swords. They're different sizes and weights.

Certainly no worse than the swimming events. Greatest ever Olympian cos he can swim backwards, forwards and like a praying mantis indeed...

If there were a 150m, a running backwards event and a skipping 100m event, bolt would win those as well.

Redgrave could only get in one boat. No room to split training between boats.

I started off addressing your point but then went off on a frolic of my own. Sorry, Camel!

You need a semi-detached holiday home near Tenby Pier.
