Firmly in the brighton camp tomorrow (not like that lol)

Come on Seagulls

Yours Sincerely
Charlton fan Wink

Oh here we go, got a Charlton fan chirpirng out of nowhere Cheesy

Only Chirping a little Wink

I was predicting before tonight Leicester v Brighton in final and foxes to win

What has happened to Palace? Literally the worse form last couple of months, one point thought you were destined for 2nd, by contrast we done the opposite flirted with relegation for too long then picked up too late in the end, if we had drawn both games vs you our positions would have been turned Sad

If Palace had been able to turn some of our many close draws into wins we could have gone up automatically. It has been one of those years in the Championship. So i feel your pain.

I hope Charlton do well next season, I like Powell and I like it when London teams succeed. I don't really look into the hate thing at all in football as I always empathise with fans if we do a number on them, but it does feel really great when you are in the moment and you have just gone one up on a rival. You can lose your inhibitions and hurl abuse at opposing fans in the process, but it is all a part of the enjoyable charade that goes on, and I find myself sometimes not celebrating when we do score, and just look around and really take in the moment, a memory snapshot of what is taking place. It is great and addictive, which is why I go back for more!

I doubt though that Palace will give me another one of those moments again this season. O how I hope they do though.

We need that spark to happen. I want that feeling that we are unstoppable again. We had that this season. Selhurst park was our fortress and we wouldn't lose there. We played teams off of the park and a positive result/performance came as almost a certainty. I have a distant hope that will come back tonight, and the confidence too that  semi finals success is going to happen. As well as in the finals.

Gonna repeat spark. If that goes off the whole team might and it doesn't matter that the form team in the playoffs are against us we would beat them, and do so comfortably.

Have my ticket for tonight and with that a dream of the Prem!

Think Rick's view is a bit myopic

Far prefer our big rivalries Forest, Derby, Cov etc to be in the same league as us and competitive

I can see why you would think that Tighty - I am chuffed to see Huddersfield and Barnsley stay up. Also to see Donny get promoted.

They are local teams and local derbies add some excitment to the season.

The difference with Sheff Utd is the prelonged nonsense their chairman and fans have spouted about the dominance and superioirity over the last 15 years - it's beautifully poetic justice to see them where they are right now. They are losing circa £12m a year - look at their accounts for the last 3 years - its horrendous reading.

I wonder if they will average over 24,000 home gates when in the bottom 5 of the championship like we have this season after another 10 years of pain? I doubt they will muster 15,000 fans.

They have always been the smaller second club in Sheffield when you assess them on success, history, stadium or fan base.

So I might be short sighted but I'll enjoy their demise for a season or two longer.

Well that wasn't a bad old game (Shots: Leicester 12, 8 on target. Whatfor 17 & 10), all very open, though mucho nervousness abounded - especially by the Ornet young 'uns, several of whom looked physically and mentally drained.

I guess the outcome of this S/F might well depend on which manager gets his teams mindset right before the return game at the Parsonage - will Manuel finally get his revenge on Basil, this Sunday?

Big game at Smellhurst tonight - Love Ollie to bits, but think Poyet's Boyz will be too much for them over the two legs, a very good footballing side v Sarf Lunun's Stop, Start, Loanee Legion. Brighton's wide players are probably the best in the Division, far more effective than the superb Zaha, and piss-poor Bolognese combo. Though being a 'local' derby can easily chuck all that outa the window - the Seagulls might buckle(y) through the mental torture of having to repeatedly endure, "Glad all over", assaulting their delicate sensibilities.

So good luck to all, whatever happens you've all had an exciting season - I'm just hoping Mr Budd can get the lactose sorted in our youngsters legs and brains, and we can have the first Pink Play Off Final at Wemberleeeeeeeeeee      ....      Elton's Finest v His Pride & Joy.

I live in hope about tonight/Monday, but you can't take that away from a man. There is no delusion that I think you are a much better side, but it is only over two legs so we could edge it somehow.

And can you take me through ure thinking from being Palace to a Brighton fan please? Gonna feel any old memories and affections seeping back in by kick off? Would be natural.

Grewup in a completely non football environment at home so had no team to speak of but i was at school with Ron Noades' son whilst he was chairman at CPFC so i became a 'fan' went to one game there i remember Man Utd won 2-1. When i moved to secondary school i got into football but was mostly Italian football, far better product and very exciting league. At my school we had a 'football society' and we would occasionally go to games at Selhurst but it was always Wimbeldon games.

Anyhow my love of football fell apart after i left school and spent more time in the US, i basically didn't pay any attention to football for years my only knowledge coming from FMwhateveryearitis, NFL was a far more appealing sport to me.

I remember a few years ago i ventured to selhurst to watch Palace in a playoff match against Bristol City, the first football match i had been to since at school (i think) and i have to say i was completely underwhelmed by the whole experience.

Along side all of this i had moved to Brighton in ~2005 and by 2009 felt myself a Brightonian so fast forward a little more and a friend of mine is working for BHAFC selling the 1901 seats for the soon to be built stadium and invited me along to the building site, showed me how things were going to be etc and i was very impressed, an opportunity to be part of something that is new and Brighton. I quickly signed on the dotted line, paid my debenture and had a 5 year contract.

How could i not fall inlove with this club now with its amazing stadium, fantastic support and above all dazzlingly beautiful style of football which in the past was reserved for the top continental teams.

As for any rivalry i very much enjoy it, i honestly don't understand why one set of fans 'hates' another though to me this is absurd. Not just this rivalry but any. If Brighton don't win the only reason i will  be rooting against Palace in the final is because i want to have the enjoyable atmospheres at next years games. My hope would be we go up 1st and 2nd next year. I guess i am a football fan rather than a tribal thug?

In my younger days, from many years of traipsing up and down the country following Watford, I was quite amazed at how ancient were the reasons for local rivalries.

Apparently, Blackpool hate rivals, Preston, because they were the Protestants (hence the orange kit), and couldn't abide the residents up the road, in Priest Town, going back to the English Civil War!

A Millwall fan disclosed that their deep-seated dislike of West Ham was originally spawned from from an industrial (Docks?) dispute, when the East Enders provided 'scab labour' during a strike by Sarf Lunun's finest.

The Manc/Scouser rivalry apparently stems right back to the building of the Manchester Ship Canal, which meant Liverpool's docks were 'by-passed' by shipping, causing much unemployment (and less thieving opportunities? Sorry couldn't resist).

I was even told that the Watford/Luton rivalry went back to the 1926 General Strike when local Trades unionists beat the crap out of strike breaking labour bought in from Bedfordshire to the Watford Coal Depot, which was under picket.

Dunno if these are true, or the origins of the hate have just been lost in the mist of time, but they might explain some of the reasons why certain clubs fans want to rip each other apart on 'derby days'     .....       even though they can't actually remember just why.

Any other dodgy fables explaining derby derring do, from out there in 'Championship Land'?

Fair and interesting story.

I am happy you have found a sense of belonging with a club and that is all that matters, asked you politely to explain how you went from Palace to Brighton, as it is rare. Wasn't supposed to undermine, it was playful ribbing, just in case you are annoyed? Was just a move to try and gee us both up for the game!

And I will never actively route against Brighton, only when we play each other i do and i enjoy the games for the atmosphere, which as you have implied, gets no better for these two clubs.

In the sense of fans 'hating' other teams, I don't think many genuinely do, they instead enjoy rivalries as you do, for the bragging rights and banter.

I haven't seen much of Brighton so far, but you have put your neck out on the line with linking them to the top continental teams!. I hope I see none of that tonight! Wouldn't mind Wilbraham coming on and teaching Brighton how the game should be played tho. Hoof ball! Cheesy

I must admit I giggled a bit about the idea of having a "football society" at your school.
