Turned into a decent debate this, the thing that mostly comes across to me and I think we mostly all agree is we don't mind a bit of japes but we want our commentators to be on point and instead of stating the bloody obvious we want them to give us a proper analysis of what's going on.
Sometimes just let the pictures do the taling the way Ted Lowe did in Snooker
. Also echo Camel in that I love Mike Carlsen, the guy just oozes class.
What of my pet peeves when watching Scottish Football is how bad the commentators are, in all my years of watching football whether it be Sky/Terrestrial I feel badly let down. Its such a shameful list of people we have let loose on our game.
I also think paying Henry £4million a year is crminal because these costs are passed back to the consumer, and despte the fact he may well be very good - and having listened to him during the World Cup he definitely is - I don't think £4 million a year is value for money.
I think Clive Everton was streets ahead of Ted Lowe in that department.
If I had a pound every time Ted Lowe explained the free ball rule, I'd have a lot of pounds.
If we are watching Cliff Thorburn v Terry Griffiths at 2.10am on a school night, it's 1/100 we know the free ball rule tyvm.

I know it's subjective, but Ted Lowe to snooker was as Murray Walker to Motor Racing.
Turn the sound down please, Dad
Whispering Ted Lowe indeed. He should have whispered a bit quieter, imo.

What do you reckon to Jesse May? Would he make a good darts commentator?

He did come up with maybe the best Colmanball ever.

Am sure it was - Ted Lowe was a prize waffler. Nothing to say? Let's just waffle then.
Everton would often go 3 or 4 minutes without saying a word, but when he did, it was meaningful.

BUT WHERE'S THE CUEBALL GOING!!! In the pocket John, like the last thousand times.
Highlight last night was the John Part snarl. Was just ambling along then suddenly got the snarl out and all hell was unleashed. Shame he couldn't quite snarl long enough to nick it.

I quite like Henry as a pundit (thought he was very good during world cup) but £4m is ridiculous

Very much this, he articulates himself very well and offers something many the other pundits don't and there is very little waffle but £4 million mon tae f**k Sky.

Did anyone have a tickle on Richardson?
I was tempted never pulled trigger pre match then when he pulled the set back I fired a bullet. Meh, decision now. He's choking up there now.
Hamilton is sooo bad.

Bit unlucky that two brothers get drawn together in the prelims
