Gurney has loads of talent (although not so much class). Worlds QF, UK Open, Matchplay, Euros SF, WGP win. Yeah he has ran good at times with draws but that’s some record in a breakthrough year.
It does feel like a bit of a transitional phase though with Taylor retiring and Anderson, Lewis, Barney, Jackpot on the downgrade. There are guys with loads of ability like Kyle and Cross who are probably a year or so away from challenging regularly.

Agree with you Bazza. And there are guys right behind those guys who are a year away from the chance of a big breakthrough year, and then guys just behind them a year away from breaking the top 32-16 some of whom will have a big year.
If you look outside the big names who have largely disappointed this year then I think the sport (yes sport!!!) is in great shape and some exciting guys.

That's exactly what it feels like to me as well and DG has taken full advantage of it. Fair play to him. I just can't have him on my mind long term as a elite level player. I love jackpot and really hope h sorts himself out. Stops having kids and gets his head down and focuses on his cash cow, darts, for a few years. He will struggle to find other employment in Stoke which pays the same.

Love the darts and find Lil Dave's posts about the rankings & money lists very interesting.
I actually don't feel that the game will be worse for Taylor & Barney making way for the next gen of players, unlike in tennis, where I think the game will defo be worse when Fed & Nadal retire.
I've got tickets for the premier league this year (haven't bothered in previous years as enjoyed attending the matchplay at Blackpool much more) but I'd much rather personally see the likes of Rob Cross, Gurney, Cadby (not this year for him) than the likes of Taylor, Barney, Wade.
There are so many good younger players 16-50 in the rankings, people like Cullen, Reyes, Dobey, Clayton, Jamie Lewis, Van Der Bergh, Wattimena, Meulenkamp are so good to watch on their day, just need to find that magical consistency.

Still chasing you down mate
I think the biggest problem at the moment is that ~£70k gap between 19th and 21st. That way it's a smoother ride into the top 16 from outside, and it'll put more pressure on guys like Ian White, Benito, Kim etc - I mean Ian White, great player but never does anything in a major ever, hence why he's struggling in the bottom of the top 16.

The WSOD could have a very lop sided look to it depending on where the dangerous floaters end up. Anderson, Price, Barney, Wade are the seeds in the top half. None of them have shown any real form of late. Bottom half tougher with MVG, Kyle, Snakebite and Gurney.

Yeh, this backs up exactly whats been said - out of the players in this event, who are the guys you really wanna avoid???
Barney (#4 seed) Wade (#5 seed) Price (#8 seed) Lewis (world #5) Chizzy (world #7) Jelle (world #9) no-one will be to scared to play these guys right now...
Whitlock, Cross, Cadby, Whitlock are 4 of the most dangerous and they are qualifiers/invites.
I think you're absolutely right, if the weaker non seeds get into the top half it's probably time for EW punt on Garry, if any of the stronger non-seeds (Rob Cross mainly) gets in the top half without too much competition from unseeded players then could be a great spot for some EW betting.

TBH actually might be worth taking a swing at 20-1 Rob Cross (1/2 odds EW) and just gambling on the draw.

I’ve taken a bit of a flyer on Dekker at a huge price. He has the easiest 1st round game and then plays Wade who could easily ave 85. He is pretty inconsistent himself but has shown flashes of form on the Euro tour this year. In 5 of his last 9 games he has averaged 95+. With Barney being Barney and Anderson possibly undercooked after recently becoming a father again it didn’t look the worst 500/1 shot I’ve ever seen.

Looking forward to this now.
Some interesting games, Clayton/Cross looks like the pick of them on current form!
Smith DVDB has a good look about it too, those two had a real cracker in a euro tour 1/4 this yr

Dobey looks a huge price to me @ 4/1 to beat Mensur. Its only first to 6 legs and although Dobey hasn't had the best of years he's very capable on his day.
Mensur is clinical on the doubles but hasn't been peppering the red bit in the last couple of weeks (post Champions League).

Can't resist a small poke on Cadby at 50s for this.
