I so hope this is not true.

He is 82, an OBE, and much respected broadcaster these days. The alleged assaults are said to have occurred in the 1970's and 1980's.

i heard this and was in total shock guy was still broadcasting in his own style this weekend and is an unbelievable talent but even if cases are dropped or he is found not guilty i doubt we will hear his tones on radio again and even if we do i doubt i could listen too him with the suspicion that he could be guilty

i already cant listen to a certain radio 5 presenter whom i read had one of them super injunctions out over a case of voyeurism of young boys in public toilets

If there isn't any truth in the allegations, then his name will still be tainted.  Of course, if the allegations are true then it's even more sad.

Thought it was very telling how the other old TV celebrity who was questioned by police on the same day the Leveson report came out wasn't named in the press (even though he was top trending on Twitter) whereas Starr, DLT and now Hall were quickly named.

Regardless of outcome of the case, and let's remember that he's innocent until proven guilty, I'm gutted that there'll be no more of his unique football reports on a Saturday afternoon for the foreseeable future.

The post-match drive home just got a bit emptier

I suppose it is of no import given the seriousness of the charges, & the affects (effects?) on the lives of all those involved, but yes, his Match Reports were unique in every way, & they alone sometimes made R5 Live worth a listen most Saturdays.

This is why people shouldn't be named until convicted of offences of this nature unless they are on the run.
