watching this week one commentator described sky's Kwiatowski (he of the set the pace at the front, shut down any attacks, stop anyone going off etc) as the "ultimate vanity signing"

what does this mean? that they didn't need him the team was strong enough already etc?

I presume they mean that he is far far better than the job he is doing. And he is on (relative) megabucks to do it.

Don't think vanity signing is quite the way to describe it if I'm right but I guess that's the gist.

Kwiatokowski is a past world champion, and has won monuments in the past, so to use him in that role is definitely a luxury.

Unlucky on Aru, enjoyed sweating that one

lack of a team just cost him in this last week, couple of questionable tactical stages and just lacked the legs to do it day after day

Yeh, had zero support with Fuglsang and Cataldo injured (don't think he's well liked so the rest just kind of bombed him) and then just didn't have the legs

Another thing that separates Sky from the other GC teams is their teamwork. Obvious disharmony in the Sky ranks (in part due the strength of their squad) but they all give 100%

I am surprised there has been no reaction to this on here

If it's deliberate cheating, it's hapless and doomed.

If it's a mistake, it's a monumental one.

If it's bad luck, it's extraordinary and unprecedented misfortune

Chris Froome can spare us the talk of untainted legacies – cycling has a grim history and one with which Team Sky have failed to make peace.

I've been taking Salbutamol for years for my asthma and would hardly describe it as a "cheating" drug.

L'Equipe reporting that Chris Froome's defence exploring whether his kidneys could have "malfunctioned", storing up salbutamol only to release a large quantity for the anti-doping test. The UCI has got a renal specialist on its side too
