What is the actual purpose/benefit of a PS Live card? Surely a player's PokerStars ID + Casino membership gives you everything you need?

Few advantages off the top of my head

- Players are notified of your seat allocation when you register.
- A complete record is kept of all your tournaments using PS Live should you require a history/receipt for backers or tax purposes
- We are able to manage the tournament a lot more efficiently
- You can receive discounts at selected partners (restaurants etc) at events by showing your PS Live card
- We are able to track tournament and player habits to help us adapt events to get them better for you!

All sounds good and I see the benefit when Stars run so many tournaments - but I repeat my point that surely this could all be done as easily by simply matching a PokerStars user name with your own name when you buy in at the casino? Surely that would also make the whole system a lot more robust with things like buying in online etc.

I don't have a Nectar card (or Boots, WH Smith etc etc).

Yes, the customer gets 1% of discount on his shopping, but the big comapny obviously is prepared to give this in return for valuable personal information and shopping habits of theuir consumers.

Big comapnies are getting information they aren't entitled to at a massive discount.

I don't like it and if it can be at all avoded, I do.

Fair enough, I guess it is something to factor in when deciding whether or not to enter a tourney alongside the usual considerations.

AFAIK the system is only used on the EPT circuit/festival at present and not the regional tours although we will notify players if this changes i.e UKIPT

Appreciate your candid replies Jamie.

I am Mr Low-Maintenance, & I don't get involved in too many debates about these things, & I'm not exactly a member of your target market.

FWIW, I am, or was, considering playing the PLO8 next week, but truly, I don't like being, as it were, "forced" into signing up for PS Live Cards & the associated benefits, and I definitely don't fancy joining a queue & filling in forms to allow me to play.

When 'Stars first began, I was a fairly solid raker there, I'm going back 10 years or so I think, but I have not played on 'Stars for a good few years, as I have a conflict of interest, so you can well manage without me.

FWIW though, it is a negative for those who are wavering, & may make the difference between playing or not.

Judging by the numbers you are getting, you'll cope just fine though. Wink

I must add that 'Stars are the absolute nuts, the Rolls Royce of Poker Sites, if we don't mind huge fields & the like, & I am NOT anti in any way.

PSLive card takes 5 mins to sign up for. I don't get the fuss, if you play UKIPT main events they have your details and stars name anyway. What's the big deal with having a card with the info in it if it makes things easier for future tournaments?

FWIW I carry ID everywhere

I hope you don't take this moaning personally Jamie.

Stars are the best in the field by 10000000000000 miles.

Staff are fantastic and tournaments run super smoothly.

I'm just a bit paranoid about people who want to know my personal information when I think they don't need it.

I'm on enough spam registers as it is and I receive my fair share of shite in the post and I don't give out personal info very often at all.

You must have run good for it to take 5 mins. I turned up just before 12 having pre-registered and then found I had to queue up for 20 mins to register for a mandatory card that seemed pointless and meant I missed the start of the tournament. If I buy in on Stars they should be able to do this automatically by linking my info no?

tikay - Not a problem. We try to be as transparent as possible so that players don't get any unwanted surprises.

It really does take 2 minutes to sign up and the only time there has been a queue is in the 30 minutes before the main event starts which we are trying to process 450+ registrations in a short space of time. This should not be a problem for the sides as 95% of players playing sides have played the main event and therefore are already signed up.

Boba Fett and George2Loose  - Hopefully most players feel like you Smiley

Scotty77
- 8 levels are planned for UKIPT Day 2

The Camel - I'm raging, your day two table is now 'coincedentally' located directly outside the toilets Wink

Seriously though, I know i'm biased but I think PS has an exemplary track record of not selling personal info to anyone. It is very important to us that people feel safe, secure and that their info is held strictly confidentially.

If anyone has further concerns they are more than welcome to discuss these with myself or any other member of staff at an event.

Dry em - Unfortunately, I don't think we have ever had a UKIPT where there hasn't been a bottle neck somewhere, no matter how hard we try it is impossible to deal with the weight of numbers when everyone shows up 15 minutes before the start. The same is true of UKIPTs without PS Live as if for some reason a player who registered online does not show up they are refunded their buy-in (for DBIs - we have players that this applies to at every single event) and we wouldn't be able to do this without you registering with us before you take your seat.

NEWY - Yes you would still be able to get a PS Live card in both these instances and enter as a cash buy-in.
