People say you remember what you was doing or where you when iconic events happened?...

9/11?

7/7?

Hillsborough disaster?

Pricness Diana death?

All very sad, but seems one to spring to mind.
9/11 I was in my Laundrette my friend came running in and as he'd heard the news on the radio watched the second plane fly into the tower, was a very sad day indeed

7/7 I was in my office which at that time was Trafalgar Square

Princess Dianas death, I was living in NYC was on my way to play hand ball when my uncle told me..

Hilsborough  - I was at my dads shop in Derby which was close to the baseball ground, don't remember the context of which I was told but I remember being told..

Anyway:

Hillsborough - I was a kid, but I actually was in the car driving past Brammal Lane of all places when it came on the radio.

Diana - Woke up to hear my mum shout 'Princess Di has died, and your Dad fixed the lights' - you'd have to know my family to know why the second one was more of a shocker.

9/11 - arrived back home from a successful job interview for my first proper job at Norwich Union and it was on TV

7/7 - having a beer in Portugal with my mates, it came on the TV at the bar.

9/11 - my Dad called me to tell me about it when the first plane had hit.  I tried to get it online, but the BBC site wouldn't load, neither would the other main news sites.  Ananova (since merged into Orange) was the only news site that seemed to be up.  I remember going in to the Marketing Director's office, and putting on the telly.  Got a funny look until they saw what was happening.  Within 10 minutes their office was full of people, and then the second plane hit.

7/7 - Was in the office at a company in Leamington, and heard that all tube services had been cancelled.  Then the full story started to come out. Tried to call my brother, who lived in Highbury at the time and eventually got through and he was OK.  He'd decided to bike in that day, but could well have been on one of those. Scary stuff.

Hillsborough - was at home cleaning my Dad's car (Talbot Alpine in dark blue) and the telly was on as we were trying to finish cleaning the car before the match started.  Me and my older brother were running in and out of the house checking for when it started so we could go inside.  Had friends and relatives at the match, but thankfully they weren't in the central pen on that day.  Horrible to watch, as was the Bradford City fire.  All you can think is "I could have been in that".

Diana - was living in Japan and saw the end of a news flash on the telly.  Saw the character for 'death' in the graphics on the screen, but assumed that someone in her family had died or something.  But when they repeated the headlines, we heard the full story.  Was on the news for days (weeks) over there, as they do love the British Royal Family and Diana in particular.

Hillsborough - was working at the other semi at highbury. Remember waiting outside the ground at the end, and Everton fans walked past, laughing that 5 Liverpool fans had died.

Princess Di - was in bed watching friends on video, turned video off and news flash came on, ended up staying up til about 8 the next morning, watching sky news and itv. Ran out of fags about 3am Sad

The other two, I was at work.

9/11 and Diana I can remember. Both were at work even though Di was a Sunday at about 6am but I remember the exact situation I was in when I heard the news. No idea about the other 2 though.

Anyone for the big Tsunami? I was in Gran Canaria by a swimming pool thinking how fortunate it was that my friend and I had decided against Thailand as it was a bit too expensive.

9/11
Was meant to be in the city working but the job got cancelled so I was at home watching it unfold on the TV.

7/7
Was meant to be in London for an after project party but was too drunk to travel up the night before due to the pre-after project party in Poole. Had an upset daughter who got her school to ring me because she thought I was there. Bless her.

Hillsborough disaster
Can't remember this.

Pricness Diana death

Woke up to the news. We had all the family round the house for my wifes birthday. Everyone was just gobsmacked, it wasn't much of a party.

9/11: I was parking my car to go back to the office in Twickenham about 2pm when it came on the radio. Just one plane had crashed at that stage and they were talking about some news planes flying around. When the second plane hit they said that it was one of the news planes that had crashed. Spent the afternoon watching it on the internet.

7/7: I was in Sydney. All the news on the telly seemed to be about London, with the Olympic announcement being the day before.

Diana: Watching the telly in the early hours when Dermot Murnaghan came on with a newsflash to say she had been in a crash. Spent the next three hours trying to find out more but there wasn't a word more about it anywhere. About 4.30am, I think, there was a little bit of news about it and they said that Dodi had been killed. Nothing about her. I think it was about 6-6.30am when they said she had died too. It was a pretty weird few hours wondering what was going on and why they weren't filling the airwaves with updates.

Hillsborough: Don't remember it, I'm afraid.

9/11?

Holiday in Menorca. Watched it all on Spanish tv thinking WTF is going on.

7/7?

Holiday in Cornwall. Couldn't get through to the office to see if colleagues were ok. Horrid.

Hillsborough disaster?

Watching at home on grandstand

Princess Diana death?

Was at a party at the ex Russian embassy next door to Kensington Palace that night. Wondered what all the fuss was about when helicopters were landing at 3am. Still unaware when I left at 9am wondering why so many police and people were gathered around the gate.

Actually I have one - where were you on Black Friday?

I was at DTD at the PartyPoker Big Game. The guys at Party were pretty much popping champagne corks, all the Stars and FTP pros, understandably, were not.

I was updating the Monte Carlo

Telling the UK Pros playing the event that Black Friday was going down, seeing expressions change from disbelief to wide eyed worry and watching them rush to get their laptops, withdraw etc etc
