http://www.btlife.bt.com/entertainment/bt-sport-to-be-free-with-bt-broadband/

BT Sport will be free to any consumer BT broadband customer – the first time in more than 20 years that weekly live matches from the Barclays Premier League will be free to watch.

The three BT Sport channels – BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN – will be packed with world class sport, including 38 exclusively live Barclays Premier League matches, as opposed to the 23 ESPN offered. This includes 18 of the best quality ‘top pick’ matches which for the first time ever are not all with Sky Sports.

BT Sport will also offer matches from the Bundesliga, The FA Cup with Budweiser on ESPN, Scottish Premier League, UEFA Europa League, Serie A, Ligue 1, MLS and many more.

BT Sport is also the new home for domestic club rugby with exclusive rights to televise up to 69 live Aviva Premiership rugby matches per season (previously shared between Sky Sports and ESPN).

In 2014 BT Sport will also be the new home of MotoGP with exclusive live rights to all the Moto GP races (Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP) of the season (18 GPs). This includes all Warm Ups Practice and Qualifying live (previously on the BBC).

We have also added top women’s tennis from the WTA, exclusive rights to UFC Women’s Super League football, Australian ‘A’ league soccer and action sport and lifestyle programming from Red Bull Media House.

Only one in five UK homes currently take a sports channel – possibly due to the high prices that have resulted from there being little real competition, so we want to increase the number of customers enjoying high quality sports on TV.

Ian Livingston, BT chief executive said:

“UK Sports fans have had a rough deal for too long. Many have been priced out of the market but we will change this by giving away BT Sport for free with our broadband. Sports fans are the winners today.

You’ll be able to get BT Sport direct from us via our own TV service, on Sky’s digital satellite platform and also online or via a new App letting you enjoy the channels on the move or at home on your PC, smartphone, or tablet.

http://www.btlife.bt.com/entertainment/bt-sport-announces-a-great-line-up-of-sporting-talent/

Michael Owen is among the latest line-up of presenters, commentators and experts to join BT Sport.

The former England striker, due to retire from football at the end of this season, will take up the role of co-commentator alongside Darren Fletcher – one of the most familiar voices on BBC Radio 5 Live – and Ian Darke, who has covered all 21 seasons of the Barclays Premier League as well as Champions League finals and five World Cups for various broadcasters.

In addition, Premier League referee Mark Halsey joins BT Sport in August in a brand new role in the commentary team working across the channels’ football coverage.

Double Champions League winners Owen Hargreaves and Steve McManaman, as well as former England No1 goalkeeper David James MBE, will be on BT Sport’s team of football experts.

As previously announced, sports broadcaster Jake Humphrey will be the anchor of BT Sport’s 38 exclusively live Barclays Premier League football matches while Ray Stubbs joins as chief football reporter.

Accomplished journalist and sports broadcaster Des Kelly joins BT Sport to present a new sports magazine programme, ‘Life’s a Pitch’.

Award-winning broadcaster Clare Balding will present and co-produce a weekly sports magazine chat show that will feature interviews with major sporting names and discussion of big sporting issues. The show will also shine a spotlight on women’s sport. Meanwhile Tim Lovejoy will present a weekend sports magazine programme along with guest co presenters.

BT Sport will show exclusive coverage of up to 69 live rugby union games from the Aviva Premiership. Coverage will be presented by established broadcaster Craig Doyle. He will be joined by former England captain and lead rugby expert Lawrence Dallaglio. Joining them will be former England internationals Matt Dawson, Ben Kay, Austin Healey and Martin Bayfield.

BT Sport has also signed a deal with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to show matches from 21 global tournaments. The greatest female tennis player of all time, Martina Navratilova, will be the channels’ tennis expert and tournament anchor. She joins TV and radio personality Lynsey Hipgrave. BT has also signed up British tennis player Heather Watson to star in the TV advertising campaign.

As already announced, Rio Ferdinand will join as an interviewer, programme-maker and football expert, while BT Sport has signed up several ambassadors who will feature in TV ads and marketing campaigns as well as make regular guest appearances on the new channels.

Gareth Bale will be at the forefront of BT’s marketing campaign. Joining him for the next three years will be Barclays Premier League top scorer Robin van Persie of Manchester United and Arsenal and England star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. BT Sport has also signed up Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen and England and Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Joining as Ambassadors from the world of Rugby Union are England and Harlequins captain Chris Robshaw, Leicester Tigers player Manu Tuilagi, and Saracens’ Owen Farrell.

Had a panic when I heard the UFC deal was ending with ESPN July 31st, then breathed a huge sigh of relief when I heard this new channel had not only the fights, but extra UFC content too.

Hadn't heard anything about it being free to BT broadband customers.

I just switched from Virgin to BT Openreach this spring.

Was going so well until Owen was mentioned as a presenter.  Maybe with some work he can become less dull.

Interesting idea, and certainly a USP for BT broadband!  Shame they've not mentioned any Rugby League amongst their offering.  Challenge Cup this weekend and the BBC are only showing one match.

In the glory days of soccer am, I would have defended him to the hilt. Unfortunately it turns out his "character" on soccer am wasn't an act.

He had a winner at Chester, in a race he has been wanting to win.

He even looked boring celebrating

obviously Virgin Internet >>>>>> BT where I live (not even close, 120MB vs like 4 or something idk) so the important question is.

Can haz all the BT Sports via Virgin? Or are they saving a channel or two?

The free service starts August 1st - my speed is ok 8-10, I wonder if it will still be like that if half the neighbours are watching a Celtic match.
