WORLD SERIES OF POKER & ONE DROP AIM TO RAISE $1,111,111

with CHARITY CAMPAIGN KICKING OFF THIS WEEK

Las Vegas, June 24, 2013 – After a successful debut with a sold-out inaugural BIG ONE for ONE DROP™ in 2012 that raised $5.6 million for ONE DROP, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and ONE DROP are pleased to announce two poker events with charitable components, with one kicking off Wednesday.

“ONE DROP is doing important and impactful work and we intend to continue to help their efforts,” said Mitch Garber, CEO, Caesars Interactive Entertainment, Inc. (owners of the WSOP). “We were wildly successful out the gate in 2012, but we can’t slow down. Access to clean water is a worldwide issue that needs our continued attention and Caesars, the WSOP and the poker community will continue to go All In for ONE DROP.”

This year’s version is two-fold. The WSOP will offer a High Roller (#1dropHighRollers) event with an $111,111 buy-in on Wednesday, June 26 at 12 noon, known as WSOP Event #47. This three-day official WSOP gold bracelet event does have a charitable component, as 3% of the buy-in amount will be re-directed to ONE DROP as a charitable contribution from the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. $107,777 of each buy-in will go towards the prize pool, which is expected to reach over $10 million. Players who cash in this event will be encouraged to consider donating some of their winnings to ONE DROP.

Then, on July 3 & July 4, the WSOP will host another official WSOP gold bracelet event with a charitable component. Event #58A & 58B, the LITTLE ONE for ONE DROP (#Little1drop), with a $1,111 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em event, features two starting flights and unlimited re-entry through the first four levels each day. Players must be out of chips to re-enter. From each buy-in, $111 will be donated to ONE DROP.

Additionally, the WSOP-ONE DROP alliance will continue to enourage all poker players, who cash in any WSOP eent to consider going All In for ONE DROP (@Allinfor1drop) by donating 1% of their winnings to ONE DROP.  Poker players have a long, consistent and successful track record of supporting charitable causes via poker tournaments and can help ensure water access for everyone, today and forever. With the help of the poker communiy we aim to raise $1,111,111.

“It’s amazing what you can achieve when you dream,” said ONE DROP chairperson Guy Laliberté. “We took a concept and turned it into the most successful poker initiative ever held. As a result, ONE DROP has transformed 150,000 lives. Projects in Honduras, El Salvador and Burkina Faso have already put the money to use. With these type of initiatives, we can continue to impact the lives of those in need, while at the same time raising awareness of the impact water has on our planet.”

After winning the Big One for ONE DROP, Antonio Esfandiari got involved with ONE DROP and started supporting its mission. With his poker player friends Jeff Gross and Phil Laak, Antonio travelled to Honduras and El Salvador to visit ONE DROP’s projects. “ONE DROP’s initiatives are not just about giving access to water, they are about giving hope for a brighter future,” said Esfandiari. “The money we raise for ONE DROP goes a long way and it changes lives forever.”

Antonio, Jeff and Phil have all pledged to go “All in for ONE DROP” and donate 1% of their winnings to ONE DROP during WSOP 2014.

Event #42: No-Limit Hold'em

    Buy-in: $1,000
    Prizepool: $1,890,000
    Entries: 2,100
    Remaining: 11

Mike Ellis from the Vic who won a bracelet two years ago is in the final 11, I think, though the chip counts are well behind the numbers left from the updates

Mike sadly busted that one in the 20s but Scotland (and London) has the chip leader in Maffews. Many will remember Rory as the no1 PLO online cash player. Bit of a legend.

Congratulations to Steve Gross, Winner of Event #41: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (Six-Handed) ($488,817)

For many years, Steve Gross was better known by his online poker handle — "gboro780" — than by his actual name, his successes at the online tables earning him copious notice as he consistently ranked as one of the best players on the virtual felt. He'd added some live scores to those successes, too, over the years, but the one breakthrough win had eluded him. Until today, that is, as Gross has become the latest WSOP bracelet winner after topping a field of exactly 400 to win Event #41: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (Six-Handed).

plo8 event 46

Matt Woodward Leads as Event #46 reaches Day 2

Matt Woodward

Today marked the start of the $3,000 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha Hi-low 8-or Better tournament at the 2013 Word Series of Poker and what a day of poker it was. Pot Limit Omaha creates some crazy action, but through in the split-pot format and the action goes off the chart!

Matt Woodward is the tournament's overnight chip lead, having bagged up an impressive 99,700 chips when play ended for the night. Woodward is something if a Limit Hold'em expert if his past tournament results are anything to go by, but he has some fantastic results in other formats too, including a runner-up finish in the 2009 EPT Grand Final and a 217th place finish in the 2012 WSOP Main Event. Now Woodward has given himself the best chance of reaching the money places and beyond in this tournament.

Hot on Woodward's heels are Zhen Cai (95,300), Michael Sanders (79,500) and Paul Tedeschi (70,800), the latter peaking at almost 90,000 chips before losing some ground as the day ground to a halt. Most of Tedeschi's stack used to belong to Owais Ahmed, but the two created a huge pot that resulted in Ahmed's exit. Ahmed will not be too upset, though because he won a seat to the One Drop tournament in the WSOP.com draw worth a cool $111,111.

so 144 remain

I am hoping the chip count page updates so we can see where tikay is with his 22,000 or so http://www.wsop.com/tournaments/chipcounts.asp?grid=968&tid=12844

Chris Moorman Dominates First Day of Ante Only Event

Day 1 of Event 45 $1500 Ante Only tournament has come to an end. 678 players started the day. This was a drop from the 939 that entered last year's inaugural Ante Only tournament. This year's event brought a prize pool of $915,300. There would be 72 players to enjoy those riches with each guaranteed $2,581. Only one player could win the top prize and the gold bracelet. That top prize equated to $201,399.

In this very interesting format players were given a starting stack of 4,500 in chips. There were no blinds but only antes. Each player started the day having to ante 25 chips each. By the end of the day they were anteing 400 each. This created a lot of action and many multi-way pots. Some people could not handle or figure out the structure but others handled it as a way to dominate their competition.

One player to have no troubles with this Ante Only format was the chip leader Chris Moorman. He found every opportunity to gain many chips from his opponents. At the end of the day he took his starting stack of 4,500 and turned it into a monster stack of 143,900. His next closet competitor Sam Panzica had 118,000. Other notables who stayed on top of the counts were Aaron Massey (99,200), Gabriel Nassif (89,500), Allen Cunningham (83,400), and David Vamplew (78,000).

Again if I see proper chip counts or a seat draw for tomorrow I will pop them up as a lot of UK players aren't mentioned
