never really get these kind of threads tbh - Herbie is undoubtedly a character, but strong-willed, outspoken people like him will always divide opinion.  for everyone that loved his contributions to the forum, there will be another person who didn't.  As Jason said himself in the text quoted above, giving him chance after chance (like he already has had) is pretty pointless as the fundamental  issue is that he was/is unable to self-moderate his posts as he simply didn't see the problem with them. I know Tighty spent a hell of a lot of his own time trying to explain things to Jason in person to help him to remain a member of the forum, but there comes a point where you have to draw the line.

I've got a handful of friends that happen to be blonde members, and a heap more that have never heard of the place.  I manage to maintain all of those friendships without mutual access to the same forum, and surely Jason and his friends can do the same - just keep in touch on facebook/msn/IRL etc

Oh, I'd ban him again a week later. Don't worry about that.

How about if we paid blonde to put him back? Think q a few people would throw in 10 pound. Can even use it to pay the mods who work for free and may have to spend some time n him.

Lol.
I don't know if I'm amused or insulted. You think you can buy people's integrity?

Not everything is about money.

Incentives for mods to mod and Herbie to not quite Herbie isn't the same as buying peoples integrity.

I don't really get offended by things on the internet. Is what he did really bad or just a build up of lots of small things?

Obv being nosey so if somebody in the know would like to pm me that would be super

Jason went out of his way to help me a couple of weeks ago .....it reminded me what a heart of gold he has thus I decided to start the thread .

Think he's a bit of an unsung hero. He's given me a lot of really good advice and imagine he would do so for anyone else, regardless of history, should they ask.

I imagine he's happier without Blonde, and it's always easy enough to stay in touch with someone on Facebook if you genuinely enjoy their chat.

He has helped me several times also

Such a hero

He just loves to chat and says how it is and has a unique brand of banter

Perhaps I used the wrong words, or the right words in the wrong context.

What I mean is, say we do accept money to allow Jason back on, what do we say when the next banned member wants to buy back in? Do we just unban anyone who can afford the fee and let those who can't pay stay banned?

I have absolutely nothing against Jason, in fact I quite like him IRL, but by his own admission, he can't abide by the forum rules.

Knowing that, how can we possibly allow him back and retain our credibility?

If we do it for money it's worse, we lose our integrity as well as our credibility.

Agreed...

If this was the case there would be a lot of people who would think they're above the law..

If self moderation is a problem, Jason should find another medium to air his views on, but if he can see the error of his ways and learn from his ban he should be allowed back and given a chance...

From the thread I realize this isn't going to happen any time soon, so in the meantime I'll use Facebook to get my fix of Smashedagain banter...

Big fan of Herbie, always delighted to see him, excellent partner for dinner and/or drinks.

Kinda hate online Herbie though, he's a dangerous man to be left unsupervised with a Keyboard Cheesy

Heart of pure gold though, no doubting that - one of the good guys.
