What are the odds of flopping quads?
«
on:

Tonight at Luton
Phil Stein blind raises from first position early in rebuy period
Two callers
Flop QQ8
Phil leads out blind
One guy raises
Phil says "i'd better look then" and flat calls rest of hand
He has QQ and has flopped quads
No one at the table can tell me the odds of flopping quads
An answer please!!!

410/1 I believe, though my experience of playing people who call blind is they hit the nuts 1 in 2 times

what about BB holding 8,2 in and flopping 8,8,8 as happened in a live game last night?
is that more or less likely than me holding
,Jd and flopping
,Qd,10d a couple of weeks ago?

Red, I rarely challenge your maths, but surely more than 410/1? I tried to work it out, & it seemed about right, but it just sounds too low.

I am assuming this is only when you have a pair in your hand rather than 3 of a kind arriving on the flop.

Correct...QQ in hand
15/2 to hit a set and then you have two chances to hit the case Q which is a 1 in 49 shot followed by a 1 in 48 shot...but I would like to see the correct mathematical calculation

Oops, yes my assumption was PP in hole and paired board, probably beyond my fingers and toes to include the trips on board case card in your hand scenario

I realise why it seemed so wrong - low - now.
410/1 is IF you hold a the PP.
I think Adam's scenario would be the huge number I had in mind.

to finish the story the guy obviously checked the flop. turn was a 2 and, out of position he couldn't resist the temptation to bet. opponent passed 9,7 I dealt the river for fun and it would have been a 7. missed out on some chips there I think.
My Royal flush I mentioned made bugger all. who else is going to like an AQ10 diamond flop having limped without one of my cards in their hand?

It took me a while to click on that REAL monsteas - Royals, Quads - are rarely worth much, there is no action to be had unless you have a serial thief, a Camel, Penly, Thewy, Bradley type on the table.
The ones, perversely, that get paid best are the siily ones, 7-4 kinda jobbie catching hidden straights.

I did see a RF get a great payout the other week.... the other guy had quad Jacks.... the loser just about broke even with the 1k Bad beat jackpot.
