The Tories just won an unexpected majority.  They shouldn't worry about the tiresome stereotypes the Labour Party have been peddling the last 5 years.  Just get on with the job imo.  They've been given a small mandate so should not be defensive.

Ukip appear to have given up on challenging the Tories: now targeting Labour

"Mr Carswell said Ukip would look to follow the SNP’s example in displacing Labour.

“I think Ukip’s future lies in replacing a corporatist dirigiste Labour party,” he said.

“The disaffection that people in Scotland clearly feel towards the Labour party doesn’t stop at the border; it stretches all the way down into the old Labour heartland and I think there’s a tremendous future for Ukip in displacing the Labour party with a kind of radical popular capitalism...

“There’s a huge space in the political ecology, if you like, for a genuine radical, populist, free-market alternative.”

Starting to think UKIP and the SNP were created by the Tories as part of an elaborate plan to take out the Reds.

An interesting insight into the Scottish Labour campaign for those down south, there will be no surprises for anyone in Scotland who has been following this even remotely closely.

Just a short word of apology.

My behaviour on this thread over the last couple of days has been pretty inexcusable.

You'd think I could take losing better than that as I've had plenty of practice as a QPR supporter.

Come to my senses now, I've decided life might just go on after all.

Congratulations to the winners.

Cabinet announcements so far have been pretty boring. No rising stars in the Tory party?

Appartently Jo Johnson is really highly regarded and might well get a decent job.

Would be interesting if he did to Boris what Ed did to David!

I've always wondered- what's parliament like for Miliband and Clegg following their resignation? 5 years at least of leading a party. Working day to day, must be very boring. I know they say greatest honour is to lead their constituency but both likely to stand down in 2020?

Next leader will involve Boris, George Osborne and Teresa May most likely?

Also if you aspire to be PM would you duck the labour leadership race now knowing it might be tough in 5 years?

That's true, but they won't stay supine. They detest Cameron, who is a leftie so far as they are concerned. They are a dangerous group, who could become more than a distraction. Remember their alternative Queen's Speech - capital punishment, national service, deport asylum seekers, leave the EU, reduce foreign aid, ban the niqab and burka, Margaret Thatcher Day (lol), etc, etc.

Jesus that is scary! Took me a second to realise it's not super recent though.

I think you'd have credibility issues if so - 'where were you when we needed you' etc

Assume they must take a whacking pay cut as well going back to the standard MP's salary?  It would be like Jose being told to go and manage the youth team for 5 years at Chelski.  I find it hard to see how they don't just snap jack it in.  Must be tough to motivate yourself when you have operated at such high levels.

They can probably max their earning potential if they choose to now, there is a ton of things they could go like going on the speaker circuit etc if they fancy it. I guess if they can't realise their political ambitions then securing the future for their family is high on their list of priorities.
