haven't read it all yet, but agree with everyone else, the writing is top notch.
On the engine sucking thing, I think there have been several people sucked into engines and not surviving and the fella on the carrier was lucky as there was some sort of cover on the engine intake. I used to share a house with somebody who worked at British Aerospace and sure he said they lost somebody that way.
