So did the majority suggest Clodagh, or was it chosen from a pre-approved list?

i think its a pre-approved list from the met office

next one will be a "D" but not sure how the shortlist is constructed

The list has already been chosen:

Abigail, Barney, Clodagh, Desmond, Eva, Frank, Gertrude, Henry, Imogen, Jake, Katie, Lawrence, Mary, Nigel, Orla, Phil, Rhonda, Steve, Tegan, Vernon and Wendy.

Bugger, beaten to the punch by a Spurs fan.

Still, at least one of the Storms is named after an Arsenal player.

Don't see to many Spurs players in there.

These names for minor "it's a bit windy" winter days are rather silly imo.  The countries where they actually do get highly destructive storms must think we are tits.

Pairs of shoes are symbolically placed on the Place de la Republique, after the cancellation of a planned climate march following shootings in the French capital,

An underwater photo of a group of tadpoles silhouetted against a bright blue sky has won first place in the inaugural Royal Society Publishing photography competition.

The photograph was taken by biologist Bert Willaert, while he was snorkelling in a canal in Belgium.
He explained: "Clear water is hard to come across in the part of Belgium where I live, as a consequence of eutrophication.

A Dog Star to anyone who can tell me what eutrophication is without Googling.

Two Dog stars for the best wrong guess.

I seem to recall it's where algae grows at a rapid rate, because the ecosystem changes significantly (either the thing that eats the algae dies, the water itself stops moving or something is introduced which speeds up the algae's reproduction).

It was one of those "This will definitely come up in the exam and you can bank a point" things I remember from my biology GCSE. A bit like what you need for photosynthesis.
