I was supposed to be at school - it must have been live on the BBC as I can remember it vividly.

ON THIS DAY in 1882, Wales won their first rugby match, 2 goals to nil vs Ireland. Wales scored 4 tries, which had no value.

The Challenger Disaster

It's absolutely a terrible thing when 7 young, fit, intelligent & I'm quite sure good people die in such a manner, especially whilst we watched.

Perspective puzzles me though. In GB, 5 people die in road accidents every day.

In 2015, there were nine airplane crashes in which more than 7 people died.

Bet most of us would struggle to name more than 2 or 3 of those plane crashes, how many were killed, where & when.

There's almost become something I would call "celebrity death". It seems to have much greater value.

BLOODY SUNDAY.

Bloody Sunday – sometimes called the Bogside Massacre – was an incident on 30 January 1972 in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland. British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march against internment. Fourteen people died: thirteen were killed outright, while the death of another man four-and-a-half months later was attributed to his injuries. Many of the victims were shot while fleeing from the soldiers and some were shot while trying to help the wounded. Two protesters were also injured when they were run down by army vehicles. The march had been organised by the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association and the Northern Resistance Movement.

This clip is from the first episode of 'Decimal Five', a series to explain decimalisation to the public. Today is the 45th anniversary of decimalisation, so we brought it back, catchy jingles and all!
