Ireland has 208 border crossings between North and South according to first official count. There are more crossings in Ireland than along the entire border between the EU and the countries to its east, which has 137.

Accuracy of Brexit economics

Just to be clear what the first chart shows. The foreacsts used are the first full published ones after the EU Ref.

The period chosen is the cumulative growth rate between Q2 2016 and Q1 2018 (ie all the relevant data)

BOE/private sector economists too pessimistic so far.

Economsts for Brexit significantly too optimistic

Second chart

The upshot is that Brexit is having a damaging effect on the UK economy, but it came later than the majority in the profession expected.

Interesting stuff as always. Any chance the delay/inertia, was a 'they won't be dumb enough to actually do it' effect?

Robert Peston

Verified account

@Peston

Seems to have been a jaw-dropping £300bn swing in foreign investment flows to and from UK, in a negative sense, between 2016 and 2017 according to latest OECD figures. Nothing to do with Brexit, of course

Marina Hyde is brilliant

"The only  consolation of living through this non stop cavalcade of political clusterfuckery is that Marina Hyde is here to document  it"

Feels like Rudd is heading towards the worst sort of Cabinet resignation; the long, drawn-out, got-you-on-a-technicality kind.

Another absolutely devastating exclusive from the Guardian just published: Amber Rudd sent a private letter to the prime minister which outlined deportation targets

So Boris Johnson’s signature has just ratified UK membership of a new European court that “shall apply [European] Union law in its entirety and shall respect its primacy”...

... when Govt policy is to end the jurisdiction and primacy of EU law in the UK...

The Court that the Foreign Secretary has just signed the UK up to will be staffed by judges from different EU nations signed up to it, and its Court of Appeal “shall have its seat in Luxembourg”

How unfair. One of the most talented and competent of the sorry bunch running the show has been sacrificed to keep May in place. She was let down by her Home Office officials, Number 10 and the Prime Minister and briefed against by Brexit-supporting Cabinet ‘colleagues’. I’m sure she’ll be back. Needs a new constituency though.

It might not be a straight replacement - Theresa might take the opportunity to rearrange the deckchairs on the Hindenburg though she will, no doubt, maintain the ‘balance’ in the Cabinet by appointing a Remainer, making otherwise-eligible contenders ineligible to do so.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Still fancy her to be a future Tory leader, the question is when. As you say her constituency might be a problem at the next election.
