May is going into the general election with a bigger lead in the PNS than Thatcher did in 83 and 87.

Thatcher's landslide, unlike Blair's, never broke the 400 seat mark

As Labour Leave voters appear to switch to the Tories to secure Brexit...teeside would be a good example of that, labour heartland, big leave area...

Given todays results, I hope someone, somewhere reappraises the strategy of triangulating our own Brexit posn based on May's

Anthropologists used to think that Neanderthals died out, beaten by the more advanced Homo Sapiens but they now realise that there's Neanderthal DNA in all of us, cross-breeding between the two means that, even though Neanderthals as a species are gone, their presence lives on through having changed Homo Sapiens.

Tories now got UKIP blood in them.

again i can't find the video, but why do they keep sending her out in front of the camera? she's everywhere today, its only a matter of time every day she does the PR that there will be a gaffe.

I don't understand. May keeps Boris out of the front line of the campaign because he is gaffe prone, we are told. Why isn't Abbott in the background too?

Abbott: "The net losses are about 50."
ITN: "They're 125."
Abbott: "Well the last time I looked they were about 100."

There you go

When she makes a gaffe she pretends she was right all along and looks stupider for it.

The all time classic gaffe IMO

For those who think your vote is wasted.

In my council ward we got an independent over a Tory.  The parliamentary constituency is 1/200 Conservative.

West Mids mayor goes Conservative

a 10% swing lab to con from the last set of elections last year

21 of 28 W Mids westminster constituencies are Labour

--

Burnham in Manchester on the other hand won with a thumping percentage, 9% swing the other way

Seen any analysis on the Burnham vote?

Is it a personal vote for him (would have thought his popularity in the NW is very strong) or does it indicate Labour might do better than expected in Metropolitan areas while the Tories crush them in the country?

I spent the afternoon in the boozer reading this thread whilst having a few beers obviously and there were a bunch of working class stokie type guys on the table next to me which really summed up why the labour party is fucked.   They were all £30k max types who are social climbers who fancy themselves a bit but should be hard core lefties but dressed in their corporate polo shirts so clearly not close to senior management just having a drink after work like any normal working class type would years ago.  They all said 'i used to be labour when i was skint but i am middle class (lolllllzzzzz) now'.  I really think all joking aside the labour party just doesn't appeal to the vast majority of people in this country any more when people like this are talking like this.  UKIP has run its course and all their votes are just going to the tories because very few people in this country would want to admit to voting for a socialist ultra left party that Jezza dreams of.  The world has changed so much in the last 20 years that the vast majority of people under 35 really do see themselves in a different light to their parents and grand parents.  There are so few 'proper' working class jobs nowadays that actually existed in teh 1980s when i was a kid.  Back then those people were proud to be labour.  Even though in most cases they will worse off financially than them they consider themselves middle class (wtf does middle class mean nowadays? - i think of woodseys types who say i am middle class! )  Nobody wants to consider themselves working class any more.  Social media and seflies have changed the ego about how the vast majority of people see themselves.

It makes you realise how talented Blair was 20 years ago selling the story the other way to middle class 'mondeo man' types and turning them from tories into lefties.  Politics is nothing but a sales job in reality.

As for Abbott RIP Diane your time is up.  You have lived the champagne socialist gravy train through the best years of your life and had it right off.  I hope you looked after the ill gotten gains.  D abbot v Choo choo on the 'this week' sofa has been a bigger mis match than Chelsea v Sunderland this season for 10 years.  At least Choo choo won't have to chuckle politely every time you open your mouth on the sofa any more.  Surely the bbc sack her off now?  Sleeping with the boss surely can only take you so far in any job?
