Whitehall officials believe the UK may need to make big payments to the EU to secure preferential trading terms...

Paying into the EU budget is one of the few cards the UK will have in these negotiations of course

oh good, something a bit more palatable

Theresa May's "hard Brexit" will be softer than it looks.

What would this thread have been like if we'd voted to remain?

What would be happening in politics now? Would Cameron be negotiating improved terms for the UK? What would Boris be doing?

Presumably we'd have an autumn statement coming from Osborne, perhaps pledging an increase in NHS funding because of something someone wrote on a bus, plus a continuation of the economic plan.

Farage would have resigned from UKIP but might be back in by now. Scottish Independence would be completely off the table, as never before had Scotland and London seemed closer.

What would Corbyn's cabinet look like? Would his euro-sceptic narrative now be stronger?

Would it have hurt or helped Trump?

Rppecently read Ed Balls book and despite the almost prema-semi he has for Gordon Brown I have a little more respect for him now than I ever did as a minister or as an MP.  Things might have worked out differently for Ed had he showed the passion and intelligence that comes through in the book had he been more open with the electorate.

Similarly the EU result might have been different had it been handled better.  I wouldn't change how I voted as my reasons for voting out weren't motivated by closing the borders or creating a money tree that created an infinite resource for the NHS.

The pain hasn't yet started but when it does there are going to be many angry people and the tories have made a real mess of things it's such a shame the careerists in New Labour were more concerned with trying to get back into power having failed massively at the ballot box last time around than do their job and be an effective opposition.

Cracking question.

IMO the biggest thing in your list is it would have hurt Trump a bit. I think the yanks were emboldened by the 'anti establishment' sentiment of Brexit and that really played into Trump's supporters.

UKIP would be finished IMO (I think they might be anyway cos of all the punching).

Probably would have helped Corbyn or at least delayed the coup attempts as Brexit was blamed on him in some circles.

We'd probably be doing a few more pig jokes.
