They are very similar but Eccles cakes are more densely loaded up with dried fruit, and the pastry outer is sturdier and more case-like.

Both delish tho.

Correct - our local baker made some Eccles cakes so I took the mother-in- law 3/4 round ,lovely she declared
When I was away her daughter took some banburys round .not so lovely she declared ! Less fruit and bound together by some cake type mix ! They look the same tho
So don't be fooled

I am reliably informed that hignfy did an Eccles cake joke. Something about if you microwave an Eccles cake, the sugar in it catches fire, which prompted a panelist to quip, "You can't have your Eccles cake and heat it too".


Not their finest hour.
