Rudy seems to have lost his mind and has given a succession of disastrous interviews, often contradicting Trump or his own previous interviews. When he first came on the team early last year, he came out with some nonsense and Trump had to cover for him, when it should have been the other way round, saying he was sure Rudy would get up to speed with the facts soon. He never improved and seems to be getting worse, and his bizarre interviews over the last few days have taken attention away from a rare PR win for the President from Mueller's statement just before the weekend. You'll have heard that Roger Stone has been arrested. Who is he?

I posted about this unique individual before. In summary, he is the personification of political dirty tricks and has assisted many top Republicans over the years, from Nixon to Trump. Although in many ways he is the Devil Incarnate, his idiosyncrasies (which include a penchant for reliving the Nixon arms-spread double V-sign) make him an extremely colourful and entertaining figure, if not quite an attractive one. Always aggressive, one of his 'Rules' is “Attack, attack, attack – never defend”.



One of Roger's quirks is his attention to how he dresses., so it was important that he dress appropriately for today's Court appearance:

The BBC featured that earlier; the same BBC that showed the black and white minstrel show up to 1978 and gave Jim Davidson airtime long after that.   

It was 1984, and black face was way more prevalent then.  Sure a fair few people did the KKK and black face for fancy dress back in the 80s at college, I don't think I ever did, just that it wasn't as frowned upon as it is now.   Dare say he was fairly young at the time and not at an age where I would think he should know better. 

The Prince Harry Nazi photos were 2005. 

If he did it now, I'd be appalled, but many of the people criticising were around in the 70s and 80s.  Surely they must remember how things were back then?

Times have changed, so have attitudes, and thank goodness they have.

However, we can't apply 2019 standards to what we did 35 years ago, it makes no sense and has zero relevance.

State of the Union should be fun, with Nancy Pelosi having to sit right behind Donald and listen to him giving it out. He's apparently going for unity, but it's gotta be likely that he takes some swipes at the person who has blocked him on policy and from the first date for this speech. The reactions of the more Democrat/female/ethnic Congress should be worth seeing too.

The official opposition response is a pretty weird concept. After the President does his thing in Congress, with loads of pomp and ceremony, the response is done from some anonymous location, sometimes with just the speaker, their team and the camera crew. Even when they choose a meaningful setting, it is always inadequate after the President's speech. In his book just published, Chris Christie says he was offered it twice, but turned it down both times, as there was no upside to doing it.




This time, it has been given to Stacey Abrams, who almost pulled off a major shock in November, failing to become Governor of Georgia by just 1% of the votes. For the third year in a row, Bernie Sanders is following with his own rebuttal, a move that is not universally popular among Democrats. Kamala Harris is also getting in with a prebuttal before the whole thing starts.
