Where we are is mind-boggling. The President of America just says anything that comes into his head. And then the rest of them repeat it even though they must know it's not true.


I'm not sure what's going on with Fox News, where Sarah Sanders is usually allowed to lie freely, but they have taken her to task twice in the last few days for repeating what Trump said about 4,000 terrorists being apprehended at the border last year.

And he keeps emphasising the merits of a steel fence rather than a concrete wall, as "it's much stronger". He has no understanding of the merits of compressive v tensile strength. If a strong wall was needed, both are required, as in steel reinforced concrete.

Why does it need to be strong? Does he expect the Mexicans to lean on it?

It really is mind-boggling - how does Sarah Sanders manage to speak with a straight face. Some of the commentary about the threat from illegal immigrants is very ugly stuff. It's really not far off having Tommy Robinson as a spokesman for a fairly mainstream political party..oh wait.

Poor Mike. You have to feel sorry for him here. He is ultra-religious, doesn’t allow himself to be alone in the presence of a woman in case of temptation (really), and has an anti-gay history from when he was Governor of Indiana.

As VP, he has to swear in the new Senators, who include Kyrsten Sinema, the first openly bisexual Senator and the only openly non-religious member of Congress.

She didn’t make it easy, turning up in an unSenator-like figure-hugging outfit with bare arms, quipping ‘Can we get a spouse?’ and then holding on Trump-like after he tried to let go of her hand and forcing him to continue the handshake.
