Somehow these things always seem worse when we have visited the location, or are familiar with it.

On Bastille day too. Like hitting turkey during the Muslim holidays. Beyond contempt to target sacred days. Really hope it wasn't terrorism as its getting to the point where you don't want to be near a crowd

I spend my life on trains planes and tubes. I very rarely feel uneasy. I did think they had floors though like New year and Christmas which must be plum targets but it makes you wonder. Personally for me Bastille day means a lot, it's my birthday and I always have light hearted conversations with French friends about that. Having that day marred hits home a little more for me selfishly I admit

Looks very likely it was terrorism and reporting 73 dead. It really is horrific & what makes it more awful is that most of these will be young people just out there wanting to enjoy themselves.

ETA, IRA, Hamas, Hizbollah, Bader-Meinhoff, Red Brigade, Tamil Tigers. All had a specific aim. None achieved their aim, but it underpinned their violence.
These fuckers haven't. The world is not going to implement Sharia Law. They know this.
And they are not going negoiate.
They are goading the USA and its allies into a ground war that will be impossible to win. And this will be the best recruiting tool ISIS could ever have.
I'm afraid I cannot see any possible solution to this.

It almost seems like the waited till after Euro 2016 to lull people into a false sense of security. Bastards.

It's more that security would be dialled down after the Euros - if they'd tried to do this at a game or a fanzone they wouldn't have been able to get anywhere near.

Yeah that's roughly what I meant, soft target basically.
10 children killed so far. The saddest thing is how fucking routine this is all becoming, it's Europe's version of mass school shootings.

The thing is there's nothing that can be done to stop something like this in future - what are they going to do, ban Muslims from driving trucks?
It would require no planning so couldn't be stopped through intelligence.

Starting to look like it wasn't a terrorist attack.
Perpetrator was on medicine for mental problems. Although he was Muslim he never went to the mosque, he took drugs and ate pork.

This really has been upsetting to read some details. Seen the pictures of the victims and so many young lives lost. The victims who was son and father, very very sad
