Why is it that all documentary's on poker seem to concentrate on the negative aspect, ie people getting into debt, turning youngsters into compulsive gamblers etc..  Annoys me a bit.

I agree with WelChef, the media pounce on any opportunity to show poker in a bad light

Next thing you know we will have groups of 'never done anything exiciting in there lives' do gooders lobbying the government to put a stop to this terrible activity that ruins lives

I agree. I was also approached about that money programme that Ginger did but decided against it as I was worried they would go out of their way to show poker in a bad light. the researcher was particularly interested in my biggest loses and if I knew anyone whod lost large ammounts. Doesn't sound very balanced if they're specifically looking for losing players.

Same for the betting shops, if you decide to walk through that door you have to be prepared lose and the same for poker, I blame the individual rather than the companys.

I guess they concentrate on the losses to warn people that you can end up in severe debt.  It's easy to get carried away and people need to be made aware of the dangers.  To show all the people that have made money all the time would encourage more to play and for someone to win a million at poker it's cost someone else (or a multiple of people) that million.

Better to put of than promote all the time imho.

I can't carry the pocket knife I have had all my life

I agree Silo, IMO it's wrong to show only the golden days of playing, because for the great majority that simply isn't the way it is. For every SINGLE winner, there are handfuls of losers, and to paint it differently is unfair to those thinking about giving the game a spin. There are tournaments on television often, and the stories are never shown of the down side, only the big win at the end, these sort of shows are needed to balance it out.

Im glad you mention that about the nativity play Tom. I was livid when I was told by my wife she couldnt  Video our sons because of that reason. It was the 1st one I was unable to attend so I missed out completely.
Why the school didnt think of videoing it themselves and selling copies to the parents, to raise funds  I will never know

I agree that we are a bit over protected, go to other countries around the world and the standards are way lower but I think with the poker, there are enough programs showing the successful side of the game.

You only have to tune in to a poker program and someone is sitting there with thousands of dollars.  They dont show all the people that pay a couple of thousand to enter a tourney but go out before the money, they just show the winners.  A couple of objective programs showing the perils of gambling debts is a good thing in my opinion.

Yeah stuff like that is just getting out of control, but that's another debate.  My point was poker related.

When i read stuff like this it makes me fear for the game and the players..Do you really think poker players are going to be watching this garbage and thinking wow i better not continue playing. NO....

The only people who will watch stuff like this is the bible bashers and people with power, who will then take it upon themselfs to climb up on their soap box and save everyone...

No involvement from myself Bundle, they got in touch with me purely as a previous contact of theirs. I said I would see what I could do but TBH I don't think many people would want to admit that they are having a serious bad run (which I have also told the producer).

I don't think that the odd program here and there is going to be detrimental to anyone, and this is not a fictional side of poker that doesn't exist, it is a very real problem for some people. For some people it is an addiction, no matter how bad it is for them, they can't stop. Look at smoking ( not a great example as it is bad for anyone, full stop, i grant that) just because so many of us smokers enjoy it, should they remove the warning of the packet? It is as bad for our health as poker is to some players bank balances.

P.s..... lets NOT start a " it's nothing like smoking" diversion, it was the first thing that came into my head lol
