This is something of a surprise, is it not?

It all seems very amicable though.

Have to say, I found it vey odd that Lefty withdrew at the last minute from the US Open due to wishing to attend a Graduation Ceremony. It's not like Graduation Ceremonies pop up without warning.

He was only going to be able to play The US Open if there was a weather-delay hence the late withdrawal.

He was never going to miss his daughter's graduation and was crystal-clear about that.

As for the split with "Bones" - I have a feeling that the operations he had to replace(?) both knees recently had something to do with this - he certainly looked pretty uncomfortable when he first came back and pulled out from carrying the bag for at least one round mid-tourney since his return.

this is an interesting read

Phil's Insider-Trading Escape

How a legal opening let Phil Mickelson wiggle out of an insider-trading case that snared Billy Walters.

What a great read that is, utterly fascinating.

Presumably, Mr Butter Would Not Melt in his Mouth Mickelson will be losing one of his sponsors - Barclays.

Correction - he already parted company with them, around the time of the Court case.

They were replaced by........a Merchant Bank.

Can't make this stuff up.

I quite fancy Tyrrell Hatton to have a decent run this week in France after settling down again after his American adventures.

My selections usually win the following week so I've cunningly stuck with TyrrellH - also thrown a dart at Jamie Donaldson.

My 125/1-shot Jamie Donaldson was looking like an interesting sweat for the weekend on -8 after two rounds - until he withdrew that is...

Marvellous.

I hope his finger didn't fall off: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/golf/article-3404812/Jamie-Donaldson-shows-gruesome-hand-injury-chainsaw-accident-looks-set-miss-Abu-Dhabi-Doha-tournaments.html

I couldn't find anything on today's withdrawal so posted that as a possible reason.

The Canadian Open is hosted this week for the 27th time at Glen Abbey in Oakville Ontario just West of Toronto and was the first ever course designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1976.

I lived in Toronto for a few years during the 1970's and played a round at Glen Abbey with a few of my snooker pals shortly after it opened and if I'm honest it was a bit tough for me.

It's pretty sad to hear that the Glen Abbey property is now about to be developed for housing within the next few years.

This really appalls me especially from juniors - In my world golf means playing the game in the proper spirit and we're talking about a four-inch putt here.

Hmmm. If she is being genuine, then it's the rules that are more appalling.

Her instant reaction was to say she didn't give the putt, fair enough, but she says she would have allowed it, but the rules state once she has verbalized it there is no take back.

As it's a young kid who may never have been in that situation before, the rigid nature of the rules seems to be the culprit here.

That said, the video won't play on my kindle and her expressions may tell another story, but the worded version, seems harsh but fair if you are playing to the letter of the law.
