When my mum took me to Blackpool for a week's sea-air after I'd been unwell in 1958 - we were living in Sheffield at the time - we came to The Grand Hotel.

The Arsenal team managed by George Swindin were also staying at the same hotel and were in Blackpool a few days early for the weekend's 1st Division match having just had their polio jabs, and by and by what with my mum being quite outgoing and rather attractive we got friendly with many of the players - I distinctly remember playing a game of snooker with Billy McCullough.

Tommy Docherty was also among that squad, Arsenal's recent record-signing from Preston North End for the princely sum of £43,000.

Doesn't ring any bells I'm afraid.

This one came up on another forum.

Name the famous couple? Bonus points for where and how it came about.

The famous couple is Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton I believe.

Hard to imagine what interest they might have in anything Celtic related.

Correct, it is Liz & Rich (as the Celtic fans know them Wink )

They were staying in a Bucharest hotel while Burton was filming Blackbeard which was used by Celtic fans attending a game v Upjest Dozsa in 1972. Being fond of a party the couple had a few drinks with the fans, after the game the fans got back to the hotel to find that they had organised a party for them in the ballroom, with Burton putting a considerable sum (between £2,000 & £5,000 depending on version of the story) behind the bar for champagne and caviar for the support.

Not sure how much Liz liked her Celtic tammy:

But Rich wore his Celtic scarf again:

Not as good as Laz's story of drinking with Jimmy Tarbuck in Barcelona on a Celtic trip, but a strange connection.

There's mountains in the background but that city is clearly nowhere near the Alps as all the buildings have flat roofs so this place doesn't get snow.

Mountains in hot country - Pyranees?  I've been to San Sebastian and it's not that, it's clearly not Barcelona so Bilbao?

Found him via Google and still doesn't ring a bell. Did find his cousin who is four years younger, played in the Championship and is only 2 or 3 clubs behind.

I thought you were only able to play for 2 clubs in a calender year? How was he able to do that?

You must both be referencing the Domenican legends Richard Pacquette and Jefferson Lewis! Both played for my local non-league outfit Lewes who are most certainly not playing a signing on fee to anyone!

Jefferson Louis is correct, and the list misses out a club!
