The UK's boxing trade mag is unimpressed by the whole thing. Perhaps they'd have a more positive attitude if some elaborated on what McGregor will actually do in order to win the fight.

Given the popularity of McGregor it's diffcult for some folks to understand Floyd "Money" Mayweather is the A-side. When the Forbes highest paid athletes list came out earlier this year the first thing I looked up was the highest paid combat athlete. McGregor headed the way tied 23rd with Gareth Bale on $34 million. Boxings highest paid star was Saul Alvarez at no.43 with $28.5 million. The combat sports line up was completed by Joshua and Klitschko who snuck inside the top 100. They all pale in comparison to Floyd who topped the Forbes Rich List 2012, 14 and 15.
What is the reason behind the lighter gloves?
Hype and PPV sales. Everything comes back to PPV sales.
Fyi the smaller gloves are the same ones that Mayeather has used at 147lb and below for his entire career (minus the couple of occasions he fought at 154lb).
Ok, Ty, but what does lighter gloves, actually mean in the fight? Are the punches less cushioned? Does the opponent feel each punch more?
Are we assuming CM won't actually get a glove on FM, so it's not in his favour as much as Joe Punter would imagine?
Not wind up questions, I genuinely don't know.
Basically yeah the gloves are lighter therefore in theory punches will have more impact. The perception is this benefits McGregor as he is viewed as the puncher. Most seem to be ignoring the fact that Floyd used 8oz gloves every time he fought below 147. The only effect the gloves will have is they make the Floyd KO marginally more likely.
If it were in Floyd's best interest to have 10oz gloves they'd be using 10oz gloves. Punching objects hurts your hands. Gloves cushion the blow. Floyd has brittle hands yet he deems his usual 8oz grant gloves to provide sufficient protection.
I was just thinking, is there another way to approach this? McGregor is going to be totally outclassed clearly but Mayweather hasn't knocked anyone out for a decade.
What will McGregor do? Constant holding and illegal hitting, throwing Mayweather? Might McGregor to be disqualified be a bet? Does that kinda save face for McGregor?
B365 have Mayweather by disqualification @ 12/1, I can't see the price on other sites.
Not a lot is the simple answer. Remember Ricky Hatton?
As for fouls, expect Conor to test the waters and for referee Robert Byrd to err on the side of caution when it comes to protecting of Floyd. A referee will want to avoid coming under scrutiny for his performance on the big stage. Any outrageous DQ stuff from Conor and he'll forfeit chunks of his purse.
If McGregor and Mayweather fought under UFC rules how would you price it up?
Slim and none. And none just left town.

This body is not built for boxing.
And last but not least, Conor's not hired a boxing coach.
