Unlucky Stu.
Are you selling anymore % just for the Main? No worries if not, just wondered if I could get a small piece for the sweat.
So yes, sold out from the package sorry!

Well, here we go.
The most exciting day of the poker year. It is just not another big holdem tournament; it is the one.
The buzz around the Rio is incredible. I had to wait through four full lifts from floor 11, before getting one down, so it would seem that this is by far the busiest day, as predicted!
Just about to start. Just four of us. Late arrival I guess is probably not a good sign.
(Very encouraging first hand: UTG limps for 150. SB makes it 300)

Well here is the brief history of my experiences:
2009- Played the first one. Don't quite remember, I think I must have busted day two.
2010- Missed it
2011- Passport problems, did not make it away from Gatwick!
2012- Missed it
2013- Early day three bust out
2014- A better time. Ran really well for five days, finished 59th
2015- Ran really well for 3 days. Day four, busted AK into AA, for around 400th.
2016- The dream starting table. Couldn't win a pot. Finished the day with 28k and busted day two.
2017- The nightmare starting table (Firaldo, Weisner, Barbero, etc) Firaldo got me towards the end of day one.
So let's find whatever pattern in that above list gives us the positive omen!

Bad news. Seat nine has been occupied by Warbs.
Although that would at least be our omen, I played a big pot with him on day five of 2014

Make it 350 with
. Older American guy calls on the button, big blind calls.
Flop
. I bet 400, button calls.
Turn
. I check, button bets 900, I call.
River
. I check, button bets 3,500. Really easy fold

Older guy raises HJ to 325, button calls, I have
in the small.
I make it 1,000 and it gets the desired outcome. Raiser calls, button folds.
Flop is
. I bet 1,100, he raises to 3,500. I call
Turn is
. I check, he bets 5k. Fold.
Hmmm, mess of a hand. Can't see any other way to play it. He has previously checked aces behind after three betting on 456Q turn, so any chance that this could be AT or JJ is reduced by turn bet. Maybe should fold the flop.

Hmm not a great start, haven't won a pot, lost three small ones.
39k
Table draw I would say falls right in the middle of the spectrum. Warbs obviously terrible news, one young french guy, 3/4 more recreational players. Definitely nothing spectacularly strange happening, so maybe it's a little worse than average

Raise
from the cut-off to 700, button calls, BB calls.
Flop
. I bet 800, button raises to 2,400.It really feels like it is simply a queen- AQ or KQ.
It gets too big if I do what is slightly tempting to do, which is to get aggressive. I call. Lovely spot- the straights are disguised, he will weigh me heavily towards spades, and I have of course a back door flush draw.
Turn
.
I definitely think about bluffing. I would do if the Queen was a spade- then I can rule out
, and he can't have something like
, to be able to call the turn. He has just made a bizarre big bluff vs Warbs, too, so bluffing doesn't feel so good.
I check, he checks behind.
River
.
It doesn't feel right to now bluff. It might have been had he not had his big bluff called Vs Warbs.
I check, he checks, he has

$10000 Main Event
Puke
UTG raises to 675, I have
UTG1 and make it 1,700.
Big blind cold four bets to 3,300. He has been steady but hasn't done anything strange. I have 30k total.
I'm never getting it in pre. There isn't any option apart from call.
Flop
. He bets 3,500 into 7,575. Again, never raising to raise-fold or to get it in. I'm close to folding- if he reads the UTG1 Vs UTG 3bet correctly, maybe he doesn't cold four with JJ or AK. On the other hand, if he does have those hands (or indeed kings), a turn and river check down seems very possible.
I call.
Turn is
. He bets 4,500 into 14,575. It's slightly curious that he bet if he does have AA, but the sizing helps make it look like aces. There are of course bluffing options for me- to raise to some amount here, or call and move in on the river. But to be honest, I'm not even going to think of them at this stage of the Main event.
I fold. Down to 28k. Not good

Think I've played nine pots and won zero pots
Raise from MP to 750, I have
and 25k, and decide to make it 1,800. I think about calling, but a squeeze behind me is nasty, because I don't want to choose any of the options against it- folding, calling in or moving in 80+ big blinds.
He calls, flop is
. He checks. I decide to check. We then check down all the streets on
, and he has
.
Hmm, maybe should bet the flop. The one thing I was sure I musnt do is just bet once- he would most likely call every hand that beats me, before being much more likely to fold the turn. Maybe I should just bet twice. I'm hamstrung by the Main Event situation of wanting to preserve 23k chips rather than moving down to 18k. It is also a factor that I three bet him two hands before when I had KK, and that the way the hand played out doesn't make it obvious to him that I was three betting genuinely.

Won a pot!
Defend
from BB, flop is
. I decide to lead 800, given that he is a passive player, and he folds

28k, won two small ones. Feels good, three in a row after 11 un a row against me!
Raise
to 700, BB defends, flop is
. Checked. Turn is
. He leads 1000, I call.
River is
. He checks, I bet 2,000, he calls. He slam called, so I got the sizing wrong.
Raise
, good player calls button.
Flop
. I bet 1,000 into 1,400. Bigger than usual, so that there is less chance of him floating or bluff raising. He folds

Sigh nasty one.
At 150-300, there is a limp UTG. Guy who hasn't done anything awful but is now playing alot of pots limps behind. Good player makes it 900. I think his sizing means that he is very likely not strong.
I have
in the big blind.
I make it 3,200. The player who has over limped, calls. (!!). Raiser calls. Well, we're looking at potential big things happening now.
10k in the pot, I've got 24k behind
Flop
. I bet 4,200 into 10,050.
The over limper cuts out 30k of his 60k and puts it in.
I'm getting 2 to 1, 20k to win 60k.
I decide to fold. It feels like it is never JJ or A7. I think he does this with all his strong hands- and does have all the suited two pairs, all the sets, 89 suited and maybe even 43 suited. I think it will be some of his AA, for a bizarre way of playing it. I think it isn't many of his diamonds- and the ones that it is are far more likely with a pair, a straight draw or an
.
Ah, it's an mess of a pot.
