Talking to people is a dangerous game when money is involved...

Wonder how thy know the theft amounts to £300,000?

Guess it sounds better than "might have been quite a lot".

Did anything ever come of this?

Similar case being "investigated" in the US at the moment.   It appears over there sometimes the cheater had access to hole card info and sometimes he knew the deck like this guy did.

Player disappeared, never to be seen again is my understanding.

There was talk by players of pushing the casino for compo, but it was all very hush hush.

I’m not sure if anything was ever paid to any player, presumably there must have been something as there was a core of players who played there religiously.

All in all, for making the front page of the Daily Record and the alleged amount of money involved here this really didn’t get much traction by the poker community.

By comparison, current events surrounding the Postle case have electrified poker forums through out the world.

Thanks for the replies.  It appears this guy in Glasgow got away with more than Postle as well.  I think the reason the Postle case has exploded so much is all his sessions are on video online for everyone to watch.  If the same applied to the Alea cheat it would have got mega traction as well.

Old thread I know but for anyone who is interested I actually know a lot about this as I worked there at the time!
Barry McKenna was the dealer involved, he was caught on the casino security camera taking the marked cards out of his socks.  The casino fired him & walked him out but unfortunately this was before they called the police. On investigation he had been doing this for months and  he admitted to a friend he was getting 10% of all the “winnings” from Billy the Egyptian. He claims to have racked up over &10,000 which he even bought a car with however the majority of his money went on cocaine as he had a serious addiction which got him into thousands of debt (this is actually the reason WHY he got involved in the scam- to help pay drug debt). Within days he flew out to Lanzarote leaving behind 6 kids who he has never spoken with or seen since. There is a warrant out for his arrest so he is too big a shite bag to fly into the uk. I had him on Facebook, he works in the Devon Bar in Puerto Del Carmen living a great life which is a major kick in the teeth to those he stole from. And a kick in the teeth to his children too.
