There are a few things women are 'better' than men are. I don't think poker is one though, i dont see how either sex has an edge in the game.
Yes women are better communicators but men are better at reasoning.
I still have to laugh at the arguement that this comp will get women into poker! I really dont know many people who will stump up 3k to 'give it a go'
having only just read this thread - thinking initially it was about a ladbrokes sattelitte......with incorrect spelling on the title of the thread I shall now give my 5p's worth....
I should start that I am all woman so have a female slant on this one....
I agree entirely that womens leagues for football etc are essential as physically there are differences which mean it isn't a level playing field. In poker is there a difference? Yes there is but not something us women can't overcome.
There is definitely a difference in aggressive behaviour at the table, men being more aggressive than women most of the time. I know that as a race women poker players have a bad rep as being tight passive, and this does lead to bullying (or tactical play) by some male players.
The number of times I have had a man at my table berate me for breathing because he thinks he can.......luckily my skill at cutting put downs is legendary so I can fight my corner......
This unfortunately does discourage some women from playing live and i think this detracts from the game. In a sport where poker players can choose from more and more venues to play every night of the week we need more players in the game. Women will add to the live games and if having womens only tourneys to encourage live play does the trick so be it.
I know that a big buy in is not for new players but the coverage will encourage them.
There are other leagues which no one moans about - the uni league or the dealers games for example.....I can't play in those but you don't hear me moan about it..... its only because its men vs woman that every one gets on their high horses.
I for one will be playing in the game on Monday - if someone wants to put on a tourney I'm in it if I'm eligible. As for equality at the table that's rubbish - how many times have I sat at a table and the men have moaned about not being able to read a woman......you will never understand us and that is one advantage we have at the poker table.

Ps - When I was knocked out of the WPT in january I admit I had a tear in my eye. As I left the room I passed a bloke crying. Men and women share a lot of qualities, one is our love for a beautiful game.
