On a side note, Ed Giddons is chip leader in the £100 rebuy with just 7 left.

A tasty 7k 1st prize awaits him.

Goooo Ed

Can someone wish him GL for me, and also let him know that i will be welcoming all the extra funds he has made this week into the Brighton poker community with open arms!

Hiya All.

Tom here (ex Cardroom sup @ Walsall). I'd just like to make a comparison between this final and last years. If anyone remembers Dave C ended up as champ last year outright (no deal), correct me if i'm wrong it was due to his sponsorship deal with whoever it was this time last year, or it maybe cause he just didn't wanna do a deal. But it made for a much better final than what I've read into this year. He went heads up with Junior for quite a while and it was a real tussle and really good to see. In my opinion deals don't make for 'good poker' (as Sami would say). I know it's a lot of cash and all and some of these guys probably won't get into a similar situation for the rest of their poker playing days, but for poker to get taken seriously as a sport (as a lot of people want it to be) I think this kind of occurence ought to be kept at a minimum. Hard to do I know as people will say "it's our money and we'll do what we want". Can you imagine major televised comps/finals ALL ending like this? Televised poker would end up staying on the graveyard channels. Call me naive if you like, just my opinion.

In response to the talk this week regarding flatter payout structures it will appeal to some and not to others, as with everything in poker not everyone will be happy. Like some have already mentioned you poker players vote with your feet as it's your dough but remember if you use your voice collectively and constructively cardrooms will listen to you guys (honest)...petition if you have to because at the end of the day it's the turnout or non-turnout of poker players that'll make or break a tournament or festival.

Lastly well done to Tim (and  Don and Phil, good to see some local boys getting in the mix).

P.S.  Danni..........were you doing your Frank Sinatra impression on the stool again?!

It's easy to blame the players for making a deal, but the crux of the problem was touched on earlie by Paul Jackson. The prize structure goes double, double between 3rd and 2nd, and 2nd and 1st. This is not true in other sports. If 1st prize collected 32%, 2nd prize collected 25% and 3rd prize collected 20% then the likelyhood of a deal would be considerably less. I'm afrad it's about time that Tournament organisors started changing the percentages so that 2nd 3rd and 4th places took a higher cut from the pool.

Having said that, making a deal where getting the trophy is part of the deal is pathetic. How do you ever know if you would have won it fairly?

Well done to all the players who made the money and also to Jenn and spoony for there efforts. My raab also did very well with his TV interview, for those of you behind the camers (including the 425 crew) I can only ask how the hell did he manage to finish it?

Agree with Dave C statement in regrads to trophy - its as though it was more or less "rigged" and takes away the excitement. On the other hand, as long as its our cash, deals are here to stay, unless the casinos decide to clamp down. There are however other options which some players often dont think about. A deal can be made to a certain amount, and the rest played for. (Including trophy) This leaves a playable cash amount, and a true winner.

If someone doesnt want a deal that is fine, play should resume - this is a sport afterall. The problem is this - there are pros who more than likely wont do a deal, due to the fact that they might be up and coming and need title wins. Thewy didnt get his name by spliting up the cash every time he made a final table. On the flipside, joe bloggs whos been playing 8 months and paid £25 for his seat through a satelitte and makes the final is different altogether, If he/she is faced with £25k-£45k the likelyhood is it will snapped up.

Deals are not a bad thing, but they should be negotiated properly and enable a remaining play for a true winner. If there is no deal, then play on guys!
