We're back, in body if not in mind after the extended dinner break, to find the chip counts thus:

Rafi                  670000
Simon Trumper  140000
Derek Baxter     180000
Jeff Rine           200000
Vinny Vinh        380000

SIMON 'ACES' TRUMPER TAKES 5th and $93,060

Having raised Derek Baxter's big blind, with a call, the flop came , and when it was checked, Simon pushed all-in for 53000.  Baxter called;
Simon showed K K A 9, against Derek's A J Q 10.  The turn brought a 10, and the river made Derek Baxter a boat with another 10.

DEREK BAXTER OUT IN 4th

Blinds are now at 5000 10,000

Rafi Amit and Derek Baxter see a flop on a raised pot, which gives them J 9 Q, two hearts.  Rafi in the small blind checks, and Derek bets 80,000 from the button.  After some lengthy thought, Rafi decides it's all or nothing and raises Derek all-in, holding the straight on the flop with his hand being 7 9 10h.  Derek calls with Ah J 9 but the and which follow don't bring any help and he's the recipient of the 4th prize of $124,080.

JEFF RINE OUT IN 3rd

Vinny Vinh takes out Jeff Rhine when he bet out 70,000 on an A 7 9 rainbow flop, only to have Jeff raise all-in with As 10h .  He called in a flash with A A 2 7 (suited in clubs and hearts) and the which came gave him Jeff's chips, while he in turn walked with the third prize of $155,100.  Now Vinny Vinh and Rafi Amit are heads-up and there is a bracelet on the table....

Finally, the compere discovers the Omaha final table when they are heads-up, and Rafi Amit and Vinny Vinh get a bit of mic time.  Rafi is the chip leader with 1,111,000 chips, with the rest being across from him (c.450,000)

There is a big pot after about half an hour of cageyness, when Rafi raises by 15,000 preflop and is called by Vinny.  The flop comes three diamonds, and it is Rafi on the button who makes the action, with Vinny calling.  On the turn which brings the Two Diamonds the pot grows to 160,000 as Vinny continues to call, with a final call on the river when Rafi once again bets - this time 150,000.  Rafi shows a surprise pair of 10s, while Vinny's Queen-high flush is more than good enough to take down this pot of almost half a million chips.  It grows more even....

Chip Counts....

Vinny 863,000

Rafi 760,000

Approx.

Poor Jen is determined to see this comp all the way - 10 hours on a plane, off the plane, straight to the Rio via The Orleans to drop her bags off, then 10 hours straight updating here. Amazing energy.

The chips have evened out, and the two remaining players have entered that stage of cautiously folding to a preflop raise, or calling and checking it down.  Possibly a few more of these situations have been taken by Vinny Vinh, but with the blinds at 6000 12000 and the best part of 2 million chips on the table there is still potentially a lot of play left.

I can take this opportunity to extol the virtues of the Las Vegas buffet, which was magnificent.  Highlights include a giant roast of a pig which must have been the size of a rhino and just the all-you-can-eat glory that is the cake section.  Great.

Well done Simon T, he deserves it, a nicer guy you could.nt meet on the curcit.
I remember him at the studends oxford cup, whare he played in the tournement, being talkative attentive and on hand to chat to any student who approched him. Then when out of the comp he sorted the tables, commentated and acted as overseer on the final table, yet giave time to help phil Helmuth out as m c.

These boys`are playing cagey small pot poker right now, not much action.

Plenty of railbirds though, including Andy Black,  Noah Boeken, Jamie Posner, occasional visits from Garry "the fing wif these omps is" Bush, & Sonny Ninja. The last named is  rumoured to have a large "interest" in Rafi. (This post by the 'ol fella).

After what seems like a decade of back and forth small pots, there comes a nearly-decisive flop of 8 9 8.  Rafi is holding J 9 9 4 while Vinny has A 10 8 5.  It is not until the 5 comes on the turn that the underhouse traps Vinny's whole stack and he can't escape.  He is left on 95,000.

***sudden controversy*** in the excitement of the hand, Rafi said a banned four-letter word of the sort that is not taken lightly over here (possibly upon discovering that this hand hadn't actually secured him the victory).  The penalty - to be away from the table for 10 minutes, while Vinny just absorbs his blinds.  There's been a lot of protest from shouty friends, and the decision is appealed - the tournament director stands firm, and the mouthy protestor is escorted from the premises.
