It's obscene, utterly obscene.

Londoners have been herded like cattle in filthy and unreliable tube trains & irregular bus services on clogged up and unmaintained roads for donkeys years.

Now the Politricians think they have a vote catcher, so the tube and buses and road infrastructure will all suddenly get fixed.

For the people these last 20 years? Sorry, no money.

For the Olympics, & a chance for the politicians to score points - of COURSE....

Personally I think the tube and London's public transport in general is amazing - round here it's useless.

I think it's great news.

Of course there will be (more) problems with the infrastructure as roads, sites get built, but the improvement at the end will make it all worthwhile.

All we have to hope for now is that Mr Livingstone doesn't manage to cock it up!

guys - cant get excited

doing the french over may be topical but small minded

it`ll cost a fortune - more than any quote so far...we`ll end up footing the bill and property speculators/touts will be the winners.

in addition i think the "olympic idea" died with ben johnson and its all about the money

at least with poker there is no pretence and i would say more often than not more integrityl

bah humbug Undecided

All these things are undoutedly true, cost overruns, cranes over London for years (nothing new there), property developers cleaning up, politicians cashing in, Brits coming last in the hurdles. But for once, it is a pleasure to be small-minded (in the best possible taste, of course) Smiley

Patman, it is true, I was partial to his programmes Grin Any who creates the Capt Kremmen series and plays it at prime time breakfast with such immortal dialogue as:

"I am a Country Member"
"Ah yes, I remember!"

and get away with it will always have my vote Smiley

The Olympics will have a great effect on London. You would not believe the difference it made to Athens, seriously unrecognisable. I plan to go to Bejing after attending the last Olympics, London will be a nice close close one! What odds Poker being an Olympic sport by then???LOL

i bet i could make a case for poker in the olympics..synchronised swimming, walking, crown bowls have all been there,

poker is a sport in that it involves tremendous sustained exertion on the body and mind , is a game of tactics and skill and would draw enormous audiences whilst teaching the young fair play, integrity and giving them skills(decision making, intuition, character judgement) to take into their future career..if its not poker

see   easy peesy - right wheres that olympics committee that does the trial sports Grin
