Advice please

A hand from a gala rebuy comp last night - just looking for some advice on this type of situation I have found myself in a couple of time now...

There were 13 left with top ten paid... with 1% for 10th and 2% for 9th I think i needed 7th or 8th to cover the rebuy's I'd had! (three plus top up)

I often find it difficult to get big chips during the rebuy, i definatly need to work on selective loosness and spotting the accumulating chances...or getting smacked in the face by the deck! I tend to hold my own far better post rebuy.

So back to last night... I have 12000 in chips (below average), blinds 500/1000. My thinking at this time is that I need more chips to put me in a position to go really deep. (This is my first issue, I back myself more in the stt type situation of a final table, and have had success managing a short stack in such a situation, so should i limp there or attack form here?)

Anyhow,

A key hand... Seven at our table. UTG raises the pot (its pot limit!) i'm in the sb. The chip leader is next to the raiser and flat calls (he had had aces twice, raising both times, AK hit twice and played them fast- he's not been playing the game for long) UTG has just arrived at the table, I have seen him a few times and generally think he's an agrressive type and so could have a large number of hands!

I see 10 10, what's the move? Its 3000 of my 12000 for me to call....the pot is 8500 as it comes to me.

I would fold.

2 choices yuo either flat call. or push all in.  If theres 8500 in the pot, then to be honest if it was me, i'd push all in and keep fingers crossed

Pass. Your RR will get called, & then you are racing at best. At this stage, it's best to "move first" with TT in NL, but it's a tricky play in PL. IMO.

take it, it was gala teesside...id move all in m8..need chips and 7 handed im thinkin ur good...wot happened?

Alright Tai. It was Gala Leeds... the standard in general is probably not as good as Teesside....

I actually don't think calling in this spot is too bad... 3k to call leaving 9k on button if we don't like the flop. I push in on flop if its low.

My initial thinking was pass... but one of the things i hate most is looking at the way I have played and thinking I played scared there, because thats how i used to play.

The CL calling was the breaker for me, I instantly dont think he's a big threat to me. My thought process was as followed, I'm not sure how crazy it was but nevertheless...

How many hands am i praying he doesn't have? 4
how many hands would I be racing against with a definate calll? 5
how many hands could he have made the raise with? about 20

so thats 20% i'm really scared of.... and i'm going to suck out on those 15% of the time... so thats about 17% that he has me hung drawn and quatered...

I think that the CL must reduce hime calling me with average pictures - so I convinced myself this was a great spot for a sandwich move whist having the goods should they be needed to win a race (not that that ususally happens!)

I push all in for another 9000... I'd be more than happy to take that pot right there. I can't call.... any over cards and I'm beat. If they both check to me and I push they still probably call and hit....

So it probably came down to over adjsuting for playing weak and creating some great figures to justify it to myself...

As soon as I raise all in the iniatial raiser re raises and I'm out my chair...... He had the aces.

The flop came Q with rags and i didnt improve. i thought to myself whether i'd of passed to a bet on the flop, or chucked it in once its checked to me, I think i would have called/pushed in either, and with those hole cards he was getting my money, end of.

Thanks for the comments, it'll be something to think of next time... now if only i could get big chips during the rebuys!!!

Afraid i'd have done exactly the same , but you either go out fighting like a lion
or crawling out on hands and knees and theres only a handful of people who you can put on aces

I think if you had had AK the situation would probably have been the same.

You were unlucky to run into aces 7 handed.

one other thing happened last night

The button guy was getting his second card last night and it ran up his hand and turned over...was the A sapdes and a few of us saw. He then says he doesnt care he wants to play it.. i say he cant it has to be the burn and he gets the next card.


The dealer thought he could keep it so we got the TD who said it should be burnt. After a few minutes of me taking stick I got the TD to bring the rules and he showed the lad.

At this point he then said it doesnt say that I cant deliberatly show my hand. The dealer pipes up wih I've seen it happen on the WTP. Ian at Foxwoods got a penalty for showing his cards... he deliberatly turned them over mistakenly. Surely you cant be able to show any cards during a hand? otherwise i'm going to show the lower of my two pair everytime? I jsut think there must be a rule and if not it has to be some sort of unsporting behaviour?

To make it worse when the action came to me I look down at queens... i tripled through my short stack on that very hand, The ace of spade lad said his AK would have made the flush which upset him a bit more!

There will be a spate of Posters now saying what was right & wrong about this matter - most of them saying dfferent thngs!

But it's just common-sense, (a commodity of which there is a shortage in poker) - there is no point consulting rules, the card is dead, & becomes a burn.

Saw some of the PNL this afternoon, I thought the tie was pretty sharpe, unlike some of the stt!

Yes, hardly covered myself in glory in the STT, now did I?

But the tie - I've been inundated by peeps saying what a wonderful tie it was, both of them women.

You'd not be wrong based on that one I played last night. Has to be said, it's a a surreal experience - sitting in the studio playing an STT, knowing that after a 15 minutre delay, thery are gonna reply the whole thing, showing everyone's hole cards. Very humbling!
