Nice pics Red, I'm told we do get the green woodpeckers up here but I've never seen one.
Staked out the greater spotted woodpecker nest from last year when I heard chicks from it, but it's got a family of great tits in it this year.

Thanks Doobs, I'd seen the film but the explanation had passed me - interesting read.

Are we talking about the landslide video here?
I was; I did watch it and was a bit puzzled by what I was watching, and found the explanation. I did think it must be something to do with the permafrost given where it was, but it seems I was wrong. I didn't realise there was so much unstable coast in Norway.
My
woodpeckers are back on the fatballs, after been missing for most of the spring, if you want a different nature conversation.

No, I thought the vid and the thread were fascinating, but I'm not

with Twitter and I thought I was looking at the wrong thing.

Here's your chance to confess something you have never told anyone. Apparently, it's good for the soul.
It doesn't have to be earth-shattering, but if it happens to be slightly embarrassing all the better.
When I was eleven or twelve years old I used to knock around with a lad called John who was a couple of years older than me. I looked up to him for three reasons.
1: He could afford cigarettes.
2: He had a machete.
3: He knew all about girls.
We were stopping on the wide grass verge of a road called Flash Lane in the village of Wickersley nr Rotherham. Where we stopped is all houses now but back then it was all agricultural land.
About half a mile from our trailers there was a wood that we used to play in and to get there you had to follow a footpath through the fields.
One of these fields always had cabbages in it. We would pick them and then strip away all but the sweet, crunchy heart, which is great to eat raw.
When I was with John I didn't have to strip away the outer leaves of the cabbage because he would slash them off with his machete, leaving the heart in an attractive square shape still attached to the stalk, waiting to be plucked off and eaten.
John always referred to cabbages as "Cabbinges". When I asked him why he said, "Because it sounds a bit like minges".
I thought this was one of the wittiest and most titillating things I had ever heard. To this day, despite my best efforts, whenever I hear the word cabbages I can't help translating it in my mind.

Lovely.
Our Egyptian geese at Wollaton Park have yet to procreate afaik probably due to their young generally hatching in January.
I would have thought the last couple of mild winters might have seen one or two survive.

I was pretty impressed by the root system of the ivy growing on this oak tree. It looks like something from the Amazon.

Haha. That last picture is brilliant
I've come here for some help that I think only the brains within this thread can provide.
I've found something in my garden today that I have no explanation as to how it got there...... I'm hoping the combined intellect of this thread's readership can provide possible or plausible explanations for the intruder but firstly I think we need a few guesses as to what it may be......
A few clues:
I live in Nottingham a few miles from DTD.
It can't possibly have got here by its own steam. Presumably arrived from above.
It was dead when I found it but not 100% certain it was dead when it first arrived.
The dog found it, not me.
Make your guesses as outlandish as possible for the best chance of being correct
