I really fancy Croatia atm. I know they only beat shitty England 3-2 but the squad looks so strong and they are just the type to do it.

I have also stuck £20 on Poland on Betfair at 84-1 as when i predicted the results they got to the semis.

I've backed Russia each way, I think they have some real quality and represent good value. I'll be very surprised if they don't make it through the group and I may even have a little punt on them to win their group. In my betfair entry they meet Germany in the final. I'm pretty sure Spain will flop again, quite possibly even in the group stage.

The bet of the tournament could be for Austria to beat Germany in the final group game if the Germans win their first two and Austria need a win to progress, or a 0-0 correct score if a draw suits. Not that I'm questioning anyone's integrity.  ;whistle;

I think International games are virtually always tight these days, it won't take a massive amount for an upset at the group stage.

The Czechs were awful. Koller is old and predictable and Czech has been strange all season..he's had plenty moments this year that makes you think he's completely out of form.

Portugal should easily top this group at the end of the group stages.

Chairman of Austria's refereeing commission Gerhard Kapl backed the decision by Swedish referee Peter Frojdfeldt and said it was "100% correct, without any doubt".

Kapl pointed out that article 11.4.1. of the refereeing code stipulated that "an opposing player cannot be offside when one of the last two defenders has left the field of play".

I thought that it was legit yesterday. He was not given permission to leave the field of play by the referee therefore is still on the field of play. You can only leave it 'legally' when given permission by the referee. A player could just step off the pitch as and when he wants if he feels he is playing another player onside otherwise.

IMO Buffon should have been quicker minded, ran out and played Van Man offside...

 a defender suddenly pulls up after clearing the ball up field and lays down on the  sidelines waiving for attention, an attacker immediately runs into opponents half wide open  and  recievs a pass, but is played on because player  laying down is not receiving any medical help, all this done in a few secs

not offside.

The rule has always been you need to get the referee's permission to enter or leave the field of play. This is fairly straightforward. And will prevent more controversial goals than it will create.

Portugal have already WON the group (unless Turkey beat Czech like 4-0) so will obv rest loads of players and Swtizerland will be absolutely desperate to go out with a bang in front of their own fans/country.

Portugals reserves and subs are probs still good enough to win, but its not one to put money on imo.

I think its a good +EV bet.

I think portugal are at least 60% to win depending on team fielded, even a weaker team I think is at least 50%, any bet at even money or better should show a return in the long run, I dont know what else to say.

Betting favourites is usually a bad bet in football but seems like theres enough bad internet money out there to make it good here.

He tried several systems and they lead to embarrasing results (last minute winners against Azerbeijan for instance), the Dutch players called a meeting with V Basten and told him that they were fed up and didn't want to play his system any more..he had no choice..the players decided on the system they are playing now...he gave in during that meeting as he noticed he couldn't lay down the law so he OK'ed the democracy decision and that's why they now play the system they do.
The only thing he deserves credit for is for listening to the players (not like he had much choice though) and bringing on Robben yesterday when we were already 1-0 up.
It's wonderful...and i wish Ajax the best of luck with him as a manager...they'll need it.

I agree that was most likely a penalty although the Spanish forward was running backwards so the ref might have seen it as six of one, half a dozen of the other, but on the whole I have been quite impressed with standard of refereeing in Euro 08. I thought that the Greek ref who handled Czech Republic v Portugal game was outstanding.

The refs have been best i've seen in a long time.very impressed.It looked a penalty though

You have to understand V Basten is a legend in Holland and when he was appointed we all thought it was going to be brilliant...and then he only started selecting Ajax and old Ajax players. V Nistelrooij was kicked out of the squad (V Basten needed him to come back when he found Hunterlaar wasn't ready yet) and we barely scraped through matches.
V Basten is Cruijff's pupil...Cruijff told him exactly what to do and it backfired spectacularly..generally the Dutch people are now fed up with Cruijff and his opinions and his atitude but he's now back at Ajax (in some sort of roll) and so V Basten is going there as well..good luck to them..(well i of course don't mean that) but being a legend doesn't necesarilly mean you can make something of the mess that is Ajax.

Its a very intersting story and although obviously you personally arent a fan boldie this is a situation that worries me with shearer as a potential future newcastle manager; the man is an absolute legend and a god up here and a don't see that ever changing however, i and i think even he does worry that he could take the toon job and it may well go tits up as its proven that all great players don't make good managers and although no matter what happens he'll always be a god in my eyes its possible that his overall status could be blemished if it does go wrong, so the question is is it worth the risk, he never won nowt with us as a player so i'm sure he's desperate to do so as a manager and i'm pretty sure he'll be a future newcastle manager a guess time will tell whether it will be the right choice for him.

What about the fans who are going to the game and have already made plans and arrangements, be a bit crazy imo to think to change the kick off time 4days before the game, in the prem fans are supposed to get a months notice at least for fixture changes although sky/fa/boards just take the piss now with quite a few newcastle games being cancelled in shorter notice causing quite a lot of problems for fans.

bad decision by UEFA, they should change the tournament so that no meaningless group games take place, if necessary re-drawing groups mid way through. They do this in the Pan American championships, and it works well

I really can't see how it could be possibly fair to change the kick off time with such short notice personally if it was me i'd be around the area of the game all day so it wouldn't affect me to much but it is possible that some people may have arrangements that mean they aren't arriving til 5 30 6 for an 8 kick off so changing the kick off seems a bit unfair to me just so that general football fans who aren't that bothered will be able to watch both games.
