Join me today from 12pm for coverage of Day 1a of the Poker Stars UKIPT from DTD, motorway trip this morning permitting

Over 200 runners are expected for this first of two days for this £500 NLHE event with 15,000 starting chips and a 60 minute clock

I'll be there til Friday night, then hopefully back for the final on Monday


To date the UKIPT has been a great success. This is perhaps unsurprising given Stars' abilities and brand, and their ability to fill fields with lots of satellite winners. The event certainly bridges a gap between the £100 fare on offer in a lot of UK casinos and the £1,000 GUKPT.

Last night was a blessed relief as for the first time in a week I could sleep unencumbered by the political machinations and nuances bouncing across my brain. Indeed I slept well and was on the Motorway early. I turned on the Radio5Live phone-in and was within minutes tilted by the ill informed half arsed opinions being spouted. and that was just Ironside on the phone.

Today though is a politics free zone, its poker all the way. Apart from the DTD Online bus. A Plaxton bodied 52 seater no less, in black and red livery that I think is ferrying players and staff from the City Centre to DTD and back. I know you really want a picture of this beauty, and I will do my best to oblige later.

Only 8?!  You've got this one hands down so get it done!!!

Nine one hour levels today, with 15 minute breaks every two levels and...and I almost fainted when told this...no buffet break. What is a man meant to do without a queue to jump?

I had 40k yesterday when the av was 22K. Suprised myself with how well I was playing (in myhead anyway). Then had to sit out for the last three levels after the spring version of the winter Novovirus hit me in full effect. Thought I was possibly going to die in DTD toilets which wasn't my resting place of choice. So aparently I finished up with 36k at end of play. As I didn't think I was going to be alive after last night I'm not unhappy with the count. Celebrated with buying 2 pairs of shoes in Kurt Geiger and a shedload of clothes in Zara. Had to - I've lost a stone overnight lol
