Cheesy

The books are about 50 or 60 years old.  They belonged to my Uncle, he gave them to me in perfect condition when I was about six or seven ( always a bad mistake to give a Kid expensive things ) .  I took them on holiday with me to St. Andrews in the caravan. One day I was messing around and carrying the books about with me. I couldn't read very well at that stage and was abit later than other kids at learning, so I just used to look at the pictures.  A horse was in the field next to the caravan, I leaned over and said  " nice horsey, look at Henry he is the Green engine ".  The horse must have thought it was an apple and bit it and walked off.  The Lady ran and got it of the Horse. But half of it was already gone.

Im crying here.....

I once had a horse, (a Shetland pony) that would grab your fingers between it's teeth, it didn't bite them hard, but it wouldn't let go. the only way to escape was to bite it's ear. It would roll it's eyes around and shuffle from foot to foot as you bit down harder and harder, then suddenly it would release you.

I used to get some very strange looks from passers by.

I know Sark, completely ridiculous isn't it?

Tom, did you discover the ear thing by trial and error? what did you do before you discovered the ear thing?

I was in a BAD mood, but Sark has cured me.

So, this horse mistook a Thomas The Tank Engine book for an apple, then, that what we saying.......?

As for Tom's story, this is just getting too silly. By what basis did you deduce that biting the Pony's ear would work, or did you think the Pony's ear was a Thomas The Tank Engine book? Which one would bite. Obviously.

It's actually a recognised way of calming skittish horses, the old blacksmiths used to do it. It has much the same effect as putting a twich on their nose, it's a sort of exquisite cross between plesure and pain that prevents them thinking about anything else
