Spiderman 2
not only did they fail to incorporate any decent special effects that you'd expect from a film of this genre they also appear to have forgotten to have any kind of a plot

Really? I've never seen any such reference - certainly no indication here:

He is very good but to be fair had all the best lines in that film! Anyone would look great saying those lines!
I think Closer was a let down to those who expected a happy happy chick flick. I was dreading it coz of this but ended up quite enjoying it when I realised how dark it was.

Also for anyone who liked Closer there is a similar American film called XX/XY which is much better.
As good as Clive Owen is Mark Ruffalo is way better.

In the first and finest RoboCop movie, director Paul Verhoeven combined near-future science fiction with a keen sense of social satire--not to mention enough high-velocity violence to satisfy even the most voracious bloodlust. In Starship Troopers, Verhoeven and RoboCop cowriter Ed Neumeier take inspired cues from Robert Heinlein's classic sci-fi novel to create a special-effects extravaganza that functions on multiple levels of entertainment. The film might be called "Melrose Place in Space," with its youthful cast of handsome guys and gorgeous women who look like they've been recruited (and in some cases they were) from the cast of Beverly Hills 90210. Viewers might focus on the incredible, graphically intense action sequences (definitely not for children) in which heavily armed forces from Earth go to off-world battle against vast hordes of alien "bugs" bent on planetary conquest. The attacking bugs are marvels of state-of-the-art special-effects technology, and the space battles are nothing short of spectacular. But Starship Troopers is more than a showcase for high-tech hardware and gigantic, flesh-ripping insects. Recalling his childhood in Holland during the Nazi occupation, Verhoeven turns this epic adventure into a scathingly funny satire of fascist propaganda, emphasizing Heinlein's underlying warning against the hazards of military conformity and the sickening realities of war. It's an action-packed joy ride if that's all you're looking for, but Verhoeven has a provocative agenda that makes Starship Troopers as smart as it is exciting. The DVD includes an above-average commentary by the director and Neumeier, several deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes documentary and promotional featurette, cast bios, production notes, and more. --Jeff Shannon

Starship Troopers easily the loudest film I'd ever heard in the cinema... since then only equalled by Once Upon A Time in Mexico.

Starship Troopers
Closer
2 of my favourite films!
A lot of people just dont get starship troopers, Paul Verhoeven is a genious and the film was bloody brilliant. It's in the same vein as scream, scream was a pisstake out of horror films but still was a horror films in itself, Troopers is the same way. GENIOUS!
The robocop style 'adverts' in the middle just have me in stiches everytime i watch the film.
Closer, well i dunno what to say. This film is class, i cant see how you think it is bad!
Like i said here....

I love Starship Troopers, it's like "What would happen if all the annoying people from crap US soaps got stuck in war?"
The actual book is totally lunatic ramblings though written without a hint of irony.

There was a lot of debate about the films relation to the book at the time, i think Verhoeven said he read the first few pages and gave up out of depression and boredom
So he rewrote most of it.

Never saw it at the pictures but I use the shoot-out in the middle of Heat to test any new speakers I get.

Starship Troopers proper quality, as was Donnie Darko!
1. Basic Instinct 2
2. Be Cool
and
3. Dumber and Dumberer (just spoilt Dumb and Dumber, which is brilliant)!

Freddy got fingered
just noticed this is on tv on friday night, at least the bbc have the sense not to put it on until 12.50am, but a little white dot on the screen would be more entertaining
